Quarter Chop for the Patrol

I love this idea for the Patrol. It can be done to the GQ and the GU bodies

Instead of of a steel replacement rear bumper, I would prefer a pipe rear bumper. It really really improves you departure angle and it must only be about 25 to 30% of the weight of a full steel rear replacement bumper. It does involve cutting away some of the lower rear body work, this parts of the body work serves no real purpose, so it would not bother me.

It is also really great improvement on the rear departure angle

Have a look at this video to understand the concept and see how the rear of the vehicle is enhanced by this modification.



The big question is who can we get to make these locally, I am sure it will not cost even a quarter of the price of a full steel rear bumper replacement, even if it has the single spare carrier bracket.

I would love to do this to my Patrol, do away with the sturdy steel plate I have fitted under my rear bumper to protect the bumper and rear lights.

This does not have to be a single process, one can cut the body yourself or get a local panel shop the do the cutting, welding and touch up painting. The same can go for the fitment of the pipe bumper, you could do it yourself, get a local bumper shop to do it, or even the same panel beater.

That means you could order the pre-made bumper courier it across the country to you and have the mod and fitment done near where you live.

So who can we approach to design and make these locally?

Is there someone down in the Western Cape that would be able to do something like that as well.

I got a quote for the bodywork part of it from Oom Jan at Quantum. The quote was very reasonable but that's just about the time my money dried up so I never had it done.

If you get the bodywork done and bring me the car for a short while, I will design and build the bumper (be that corner sections which are doable with a corner chop or a full bumper).

Gerhard, aka G-man's rear steal bumper is a really slim looking full steel bumper.

Looks like he did the quarter chop aswell.
