Spare tyre mount for gas bottle holder

Afternoon
Does anyone know if you can this kind of contraption here in South Africa? Its the Kaon Outback spare tyre mount. Im looking for something that I can attach a gas bottle holder too. I just don't have any space on the roof rack (thanks tentco family size rooftop), or a side on the roof rack. So I'm thinking of attaching it to the spare (just a normal 3kg gas bottle). Anyone know if there is something like this in South Africa

I designed something like that for Dirk several years ago, but it proved far too expensive, and so it was never made.

I know that Fronrunner has a spare tyre "step ladder" that is roughly the same idea, but its a bit pricey to buy and to "mod" in the end

Izak - perhaps not exactly the same thing, but what about something like FR's side-mount gas bottle holder and then mounting it onto the perch for the spare wheel - ie: on top of the wheel.

It would make changing a tyre a bit of a pain (ie: first having to remove the gas bottle), but you would have to do that with the other style one in any case. Just a thought.

The one I designed swndwhiched between the wheel and the bracket and so didn't requir3 removal to change a wheel. That's part of why it was so expensive.
But I have had two gas bottles fall off on me due to ratchets straps coming undone on bad currugations...

Hi Ian
Yeah I was looking at that, also though perhaps making a bracket so this side mount can just attach to the ladder. But im worried about the vibration (As Peter mentioned), maybe it'll have to be the front of the spare. Luckily with fuel prices , I have loads of time to decide lol

On a side note, I always used to travel with a full Cadac type gas bottle on the roof rack. And then I realised it was totally overkill - that entire thing of "less is more"...
These days, I simply use the small Alva gas stove when touring. It is tiny and is perfect for our needs - we easily cook for a family of five on this when camping.

Granted - it does not have the attachments for skottels, potjies etc, but I hate cooking on a Cadac skottel at the best of times. And should I do a pot when camping, I do it on fire.

There is always a shortage of them when load shedding starts, or when there are power issues. In late November last year, when most of us Pretoria East folk had been without electricity for two weeks, they were very scarce. I'm pretty sure that they're probably also a rare commodity at the moment with the load shedding.
That said, I've never battled to get stock of them - I've sometimes just had to drive to more out of the way places. When the shops in the East run out, I've often found Outdoor Warehouse on Zambezi road to have plenty. etc. One just has to call around a little. Also, when I do restock the canisters, I normally get quite a lot of them.
