Steel wagon rims and 35s
Morning all
I am happy to report that my 3" Dobinson suspension is in. And it feels great.
Unfortunately the 33s now look lost (255/85R16). I am currently still running on steel bakkie rims (6jj I think).
I am contemplating going to 35s (not skinnies). Therefore, I don't know if the 6jj would be able to hold the 35s.
A local guy wants to replace his steel wagon rims. Are they wider than 6 inches? Would they be a good option for 35s?
What are their offset?
Assistance please

Re: Steel wagon rims and 35s
Hi Ruan
The GL wagon steelies are 16x8 and would probably be the minimum width for a 35/12.5 tyre. 10JJ being my preference. 35's are usually available in 15 or 17, but not 16inch. You may have to look for 315/75/16 tyres (34.6inch) if you want to run 16inch. Another option is the GRX wagon alloy rims that are 17x8. I think Anthony has this setup on his Patrol. Offset should be +10 on 16x8 and 17x8.

Re: Steel wagon rims and 35s
Thanks Bruce
Yes I will have to take the 315/75 due to not having a lot of options in this area.
Ive read that most recommended ~ -20 offset rather than a positive one.
Although Ants rims do look cool, im leaning a bit more to a steely look

Re: Steel wagon rims and 35s
Ja I don't like going wider than 8J max. An off road tyre functions optimally when on a narrower rim in my opinion. I went through the wide wheel phase years ago and returned to conservative width for rims

How much thread do you have left on the 255’s?NoPressure wrote: ↑15 Dec 2021 08:28 Unfortunately the 33s now look lost (255/85R16). I am currently still running on steel bakkie rims (6jj I think).
Do you want to sell them with the rims and spacers?
Just asking.... i might be interested (depending on the cost and effort to get them back this side... )

Re: Steel wagon rims and 35s
Sorry Fanus
Can't believe I missed your post.
The 255s were still very good, but found a buyer. Still have the steel rims though. Not sure how to get them to you though.

Re: Steel wagon rims and 35s
I am not exactly sure where to post this, but here it goes.
So I bought old steelies from a later model patrol, and had them painted. Everyone is running black rims these days, and I was looking for something different- not that a red patrol isn't different by itself.
I had however a very real issue gettiing hold of 35" tyres. Funnily enough, I could get 37" GY wrangler for cheap, as it was eating up a guys rubicon...but thought that then I would have to change diff ratios again.
With the awesome assistance of our own Tinus and the MD of Maxxis that probably gave the best customer service I have ever experienced, I got some Maxxis 772s. Honestly, If I didn't replace my bakkies tyres 3 weeks prior I would definitely gotten Maxxis for it as well. I will try and support them as they have supported me.
So yes, the suspensiom, rim and tyre combination is working brilliantly. I am honestly extremely happy. Just want to bring the colour of the rims in somewhere else on the vehicle.
Thanks for this forum and the great people on here
