New shocks needed

Post by Jacor »

Hi everyone

I am in need of some new shocks. Something that will fit on a 4 inch lift, series 4.

Currently have LAS Profenders.

I have tried some offroad fitment centres but haven't had much joy. The one and only qoute I got so far was for Tough Dog adjustable (big bore I think), for R21 580

Any help or advice you can give would be great.

Thanks so long.
Jaco

I had custom nade Bilsteins done at Mikem suspensions on my 4 inch raised Terrano and they were faultless for 8 years until I sold the Terrano. At 4 years old they inspected them, the oil was still clear and like new; the service was not done as it was not required.

Then I needed rear shocks for the 4 inch raised Patrol, about 5 years ago. I went back there and Darryl built me two to the required length and a week later fitted them. Eventuality when the fronts need replacing, I know where I would go.

PS
Standard Bilsteins are blue and yellow. Custom made ones are blue and polished (silver) aluminium. I think I paid about R2800 each, 5 years ago.

I have been to the Mikem/Bilstein factory(behind the fitment shop) where they build the shocks. Very cool, they will make you shocks to order.

I have on 4 of my vehicles (3 with rear coils and leaf springs on the 4th) taken it to General Spring works in Driehoek in Germiston for new coils and leafs .
No 1. 1985 Safari - New leafs rear, re-tensioned front
No 2. 1995 Patrol - 4 new coils, 2mm thicker wire, 5 inch lift. It really looked sexy with 5 inch lift and 12.5 x 33" tyres on 10J rims (see pictures)
No 3. 1999 Terrano - 2 new rear coils (three times), first 1mm thicker wire, 3 inch lift , not satisfied - then they fitted 2mm thicker wire (no charge) 2 in lift, still not happy, then they fitted 3mm thicker wire (no charge) 3 in lift, this was at last perfect for my requirements!!
No 4. 2008 Patrol - 4 new coils, 1mm thicker wire, 3 inch lift.

They are excellent, the work is done in one day. If you are not happy with the hardness (stiffness) of the first attempt, they will redo it even 3 or 4 times, until you are happy.

I really like their professional workmanship and their commitment to not stop changing and adjusting until you are happy with the results. Their prices are extremely good compared to the rest.....
