New Winscreen Issues

Post by Unkredible »

Hi all,
Have had a new windscreen fitted. First they installed it with a PG Glass Rubber trim that didn't fit, so I made them order the correct trim from Nissan.
Now the have redone the job and it looks like there are still issues with the fit - there are gaps between the body and the trim strip on the corners, and lumps where it has not seated properly. Installer says the inner rubber is damaged.
Surely they should have replaced this as well if it was going to be an issue?
I guess I just have to not accept the job and kak on my insurer again?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks..

I had a few leaks from when a new windscreen was fitted after they tried to use the old rubber. took it back and they fitted Nissan rubber and alll was well.... never any hassles and it been fitted for a good 4 odd years, if not more. They have to do it properly to get the cover trim strips to seat properly

I'm sure the GU windscreen is glued in, so not sure of the rubber. There is a trim piece than do require replacement - but not always

And if you have a water leak in the passenger footwell after replacement then 95% chance is that the plastic things that secures the vent/ wiper arm tray was not replaced or broken. I think it is the 2 or 3 left ones (but not the one that goes in the fender) has holes directly into the cabin and will leak water if not sealed.

Yes, there is some of that black rubber glue that holds the windscreen in place. It sits on 2 support pegs near the wipers. I think the one on the passenger side on mine had broken a bit, but they made a plan to hold it somehow. The rubber I'm talking about isn't like the old school rubber with a piece of string to get the glass into the rubber, I think its more to hold the trim pieces in place. Like I said, it was over 4 years ago when they had to redo it.

Have just had a closer look. They did use the genuine Nissan seal strip on the second attempt, but it is still not seated correctly and the tray that the windscreen wipers go through is skew and loose. Looks like the whole windscreen is set too low down so there is not enough space for the tray to sit properly... What a mess...
I guess they will have to come try again for the 3rd time...
Very frustrating...

Ja I had my screen replaced about 18 months ago and the result also sucked badly. I complained and they offered to come out to my house the next day to re-do it. I was sceptical but they pitched up and redid the job.The second go was better but still not great. I gave up and turned a blind eye, which is tough for a perfectionist. Maybe the after-market glass isn't quite the right tolerances?

Mine was done by National Autoglass, and they all probably use a Chinese import due to the lack of demand for Patrol windscreens, butt tolerances I doubt are an issue as there is that black goo to take up any inconsistency. I think that they didn't use those "pegs" to rest the glass on. I think they are orange in colour, but go brittle over time. if those pegs are not there then the windscreen will not be aligned to the frame.

Insurance are sending an assessor now to have a look. I can put my finger into one of the gaps up to the first knuckle...
