Bonnet protectors

It seems as if bonnet protectors are available for the Y61 Facelift models in Australia. I am not able to tell if these will work on the original shape Y61, maybe someone like Tinus can tell us.

Is there anyone on this Forum that has contacts in Australia to see if these can be obtained and shipped to SA if we have 10 or 15 takers for this item?

We may even find that someone local can make these locally. That would be the first prize. Rhett van Der Stelt, you are in the perspex business, do you know if there is someone local who can perhaps make these?

This is from this facebook page posted by Dries le Roux. Thanks Dries!!

This list so far is: (Price dependent!!) Seems we can bring these in for less than R2k if ordered individually and directly. Hopefully if we bring in 10 or 15, the per unit shipping costs will drop substantially.

1. Malcolm van Coller - Y61
2. Ian Temperley - Y61
3. Terence Marsh - Y61
4. Wilfred Moore - Y61
5. Macaneta Bode - Y61
6. Rob Marussi - Y61

Found this so far:

https://patrolapart.com.au/product/genu ... uit-gu-1-3

https://www.ocamindustries.com.au/for-n ... -protector

and

https://www.ocamindustries.com.au/for-n ... -2004-2015

Also available for Y60!!

https://www.ocamindustries.com.au/for-n ... -protector

So the price varies between AUS $88 and $98 (about ZAR 1,200-00) when purchased there. Obviously excludes shipping and local duties and taxes when it arrives. The price landed here should come in under R2k.

Which rubber protection are you talking about? Is it the rubber strip on the front underside of the bonnet?

If it is that, it is not actually protection, it is there to prevent air from flowing over the radiator into the engine bay and flooding the engine bay with air. Air follows the path of least resistance, so if it went in here, it would actually strop air from going through the radiator and cooling the water in the radiator, and therefore causing engine overheating!!

So no, it will not require (or at least SHOULD NOT) for those rubbers to be removed. I cannot speak for this one for the Patrol, but the one on my Pathfinder did not require the removal of those rubber strips...... I am sure that the manufacturers are aware that this rubber strip must not be removed, because it will cause overheating the vehicle's engine!

There must be some clever okes on here that can 3D print these things for us? Print them in two halves and we plastic weld them together to make one piece. You can use my (stuffed) one as a template.

Copy the list, paste it on a new post and add you name.

But before we can go any further, we need someone who has the contacts to get these in, preferably one with an automotive import permit.....
