Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

I hope this is the right area to post.

I need to know what spares you guys take into the bush for the 4.8 - the Patrols seem to give very few problems, but I'm sure a couple of spare belts, plugs, etc would be a good idea.
We are doing a trip into Zim next year so starting to organise early.

En 2x ekstra petrol filters, belde ensvoorts ek het vir my 4.5 ekstra starter en alt maar dis nie eintlik nodig nie. En dan natuurlik fuses, elektriese draad , pratley steel en die epoxy , Q bond en gee hom n goeie diens tenminste 2 weke voor jy gaan dat as daar moeilikheid is jy dit in tyd kan optel.

Replace belts if you haven't done so in the last 2-3 years, and take the old ones as spares rather than keeping the old ones on and taking new spares.

If it's more than 10 or 15 years old, it's probably a good idea to replace all the water (cooling system and heater) hoses as well.

With regard to the alternator, check if it's one of the relatively modern ones that have a modular regulator and brush setup. IE whether the regulator and brushes can be replaced with spanners without having to strip the alternator down. If so, that module is a great spare to carry as it is small and light and fixes 80% of potential alternator issues.

Starter is a big and heavy thing to drag along, but since the car is an auto, if it packs up you're kinde buggered. But it's another thing I would replace rather than dragging a spare along. However, they normally give plenty of warning before they pack up.

Tinus found a really well looked after 2007 4,8 - the services were in fact overdone by the first owner (I have every invoice as he did all his own servicing) it is sitting on 210,000 klm but really has done not much hard work, if any.

Yip it makes sense to do all the checks and preventative maintenance, but they really seem to be pretty trouble free vehicles.
