GPS units

So when I bought my vehicle it had this wonderful Sony unit installed but unfortuntely the radio unit does not have an onboard GPS installed.

So I have been playing around with the idea of having a GPS unit installed in the compartment just above my radio.

I know a lot of people stick their GPS against the windscreen but I want to keep that area reasonably clean and unobstructed.

The question is however, is it possible/advisable to have it installed there and what unit should I consider. I need a unit that is cost effective, can be used for normal city driving but must be able to track the route you are driving and marking of various points reached along a route with at waypoint. Voice activation would be an added benefit lol.

I would like the unit to have a display of approximately 5”, dependent on the size in the dash, similar to the Garmin DriveSmart 55 LMT-S.

Also did my research way back, and in the front (18cm) and back (slightly less) recess plenty of width, but height is the problem. If I remember correctly it's about 6.5 cm. With EGNOS/GLONASS technology, tree canopies and dashboard interference not a huge issue anymore and you'll probably only lose a meter or 2 horizontal accuracy. Let us know what models you come up with...

Agree, I also want to keep the dashboard area clean

Does have a GPS - works great and is a perfect fit.

Imported unit.
