Turbo-ing my 4.2

Hi all,

I'm finally in the mood to turbo my 1998 4.2D Patrol. I've got a Safari turbo kit (GT35 turbo with front mount intercooler) off a guy who blew his engine....he never had an EGT and was towing boats with a boost of 0.9Bar...no surprises there...Anyway...unfortunately he wasn't too keen on parting with his exhaust manifold (he's gotten rid of the original one) so now I sit without the manifold...any idea where I can get a manifold for this turbo or where I can get one fabricated? Also when I do the setup I'm going to need to get the old girl dyno-ed so she will be running sweetly...any suggestions on who to talk to about that one?

I plan to run 0.4 to 0.5 as I'm not after turning this into a racing truck...I just want a little extra oomph when I drive up hills or when she's loaded for overlanding.

Hi,Srxy.
I turboed my 99' 4.2 diesel, built my own manifold etc etc.And I dyno'ed the car .The car run very well, power, comsumption and so on.I have to mention that 0.9 bar can not brake that enjin,IF the fueling and cooling are in spec for that apliction. It is fine to run your car at 0.5,it will have the performance you are looking for.
Are the previous owner looking for a std manifold?I have one.The 4.2 diesel and 4.5 petrol have exacly the same manifolds, for what its worth.
I can help you with every thing.(manifacturing, fit, dyno or I can recomend anyone for your need.)

Frans,

The previous owner sold the car pretty soon after he sold the turbo. Even though he had spent R20k on that engine(he claims...he was a used car salesman  ) that poor Troll was pretty tired apparently and had only done 230,000km's. You're right... it wasn't so much the 0.9 boost as much as he drove it with no regard for the engine. When I was chatting to him he reckons he was very surprised when the engine temps kept going up high...even though he was only doing 140km/h towing his boat up a hill....lol...some people shouldn't own Turbo Diesels...hehehehe

I'd really appreciate the help Frans...would dig to check out your truck!! I'm really keen to get this Turbo on...it's been sitting at home looking at me for a year now!! I'll give you a shout sometime soon!
