It would be handy to have a radio guy on the forum, but I think most people just don't have the time to be the guy.

I've confirmed from Dirk on the 4x4 Community forum that the CTCSS tones used on the three frequencies are not prescribed by ICASA, merely suggested, so we could always pick one of the frequencies and assign a CTCSS tone for the forum members here.

However, it is probably just easier to pick a forum favourite VHF channel from the ones recommended as it is quiet enough and pick favourite UHF frequency with CTCSS tone for those with UHF.

My hand held does both at the same time so I am usually listening on the 4x4 Community recommended channel 1 and scanning on UHF. But there is so much going on on the license free channels that I'd much prefer to just listen to a CTCSS filtered frequency for incoming 4x4 chatter on UHF.
