Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

My 2000 4.2d only has the main tank, and being a GL I assume there is no low fuel warnig light. Would it be possible to install a diy warning light?

I have the '98 GL and it definitely has a fuel light.

Yip, mine is also the GL, with only main tank. The needle has to drop to just on the "E" line before the orange light comes on..... I make big poo's when I see that light come on..... bleeding a 4.2 diesel if it runs out of diesel is not going to be fun, unless you have a lift pump fitted

Discovered that my gq got a low fuel warning light.... which does not work most of the time.
It appeared for the first time over the weekend. Next time i started the car it was gone..

The GU pumps fuel from the subtank to the main for a few seconds every time the vehicle is started. I believe this is part of its self-test procedure. If the GQ works the same way, it is possible that the fuel pumped into the main from the sub when the vehicle was started filled up the main enough for the light to disappear. Alternatively, it could also possibly be fuel draining back from the pipes when the vehicle was off which filled the main tank slightly.

That said, I'm too scared to wait for that fuel warning light to come on at any point in time. In the case of my vehicle and my experience, that light does not mean "warning: low fuel". It means "warning: I will do about another 500 metres before I die". In short: I try and refuel long before there is any possibility of that light coming on at all...

GQ's don't have sub-tanks (not factory ones anyway).

Never seen a low-fuel warning light in mine. Take a photo next time, so we can see where it is please Fanus?
