Any clever ideas ?

Hi guys, hope everyone had a great holiday

Ok so this morning we went on a drive around the farm here on some of the washed out roads. Kept hearing a knocking noise coming from the front left particularly when the road was uneven.. I put the car up on stands to test the 4x4 and it's all working as it should so it wasn't the hub or a side shaft..

Been searching the whole morning and I think I finally found the problem... the bolt in the front left body mount has snapped off inside.... and I have no idea how to get it out

It must have been loose before or weak but I hadn't noticed any noises coming from that area until today. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the bolt out, its snapped off about an inch deep ?

I'm not even sure that this is the result of that noise I heard yet but it seems like it happened quite recently because there is no rust or anything on the bolt... it did go in for wheel alignment and ballancing 2 weeks back but I dont know if they would fiddle with body mounts ??...

The one on the front right side also seems worn/loose, there is a bit of play in the mount. Too scared to fiddle with it though incase I end up with the same problem on the other side..

At the coast a sheared bolt will show surface rust within a day or two so its fresh...

I would call a mobile stud removal service & see what they have to say.

If the other side is also showing signs of wear it would be best to check them all & at least replace all the mounting bolts maybe even the rubbers if needs be IMHO...

Not sure about the GU, but on the GQ's these are all bolt and nut sets.

HAve a look if there is a bolt head on the other side, and if there is, you should be able to drive it through with a drift punch.

Hey guys

So I took the patrol to Graham and he managed to work his magic and get that bolt out. Quite a mission it sounded like Haha but good news is that it is out and replaced with a brand new bolt and mount. The other side was also in a bad way.. the bolt was nearly rusted all the way through :surprised: also now replaced with a new bolt. Did all that and a service in time for lunch so that was awesome :bravo:

Interesting choice of design by nissan ... the way the body bracket at the front is made is like a well that will hold any water that manages to get in there so rust will always be trying to creep in. anyway all good now.

The other mounts seem fine thank goodness because it sounds like a big job to replace all of them. But yes if one had to do it then it might be a good enough excuse to add a body lift while you are at it
