Hi, has anyone had a safe fitted to their Patrol? If so where is it located in the car, and where did you get it from?

Will be interested to see the comments here.
The safe I used to have in the old landy was such a useful thing.
Would love to put one in the patrol.

Never thought of it until now, but that's a great idea. Not many places you can really "hide" it, unless you have a drawer system to mount it in. My Patrol is packed when we do tours and trips, so I cannot think of any spare space for a safe at the moment.

I once saw quite a clever safe/immobilizer: The guy mounted a frame around the inside of the footwell, just back of the pedals. This was made from flat bar, I think about 10mm thick x 50mm wide. To the bottom edge were welded two bullet hinges.

To these were welded a 5mm thick steel plate. This could either lie flat on the floor, or swivel up to enclose the pedals and form a safe at the same tome. At the top edge of the plate was a groove through which a plate integral to the frame fitted. This simply had a hole in for a padlock.

I'm currently building one. I have the perfect spot for it. But naturally don't want to share too many details / photos on "open" media. If you're interested, you're welcome to PM me. :)

Hi,
Had a safe under the centre console with the access from the back passenger seats side!
Standard little gun safe, made the console box a bit shallow but enough space for all the 'crap'

Maybe a bit pricey: R2800 for a manual safe, R3500 for an electronic safe.
They build to SABS specs, which is a requirement if you want to store a firearm in the safe...

Do you mind sending me some pics of your design?

I managed to fit mine under the rear seats. :eureka:

When I fitted my ammo box slide and fridge/freezer slide (90lt NL) rack system to the Patrol, it left enough space between the rack system and the rear seats for a 60lt Pioneer Plastics water water tank.

Below the water tank I then had enough space on the driver's side to bolt one of those small "build into the wall" safes that I bought from my local hardware store.

It is a SAPS approved handgun safe and most locksmiths sell them too. The safe is roughly 140mm high, 110mm deep and 300mm long. They go for about R600.

On the opposite side, I had enough space for the base unit and the working parts of my HL jack and a "clip together" spade.

Under the seat there is enough space for the jack handle, the spade handle, the bigger base plate for the jack and the cross brace wheel spanner.

The seat is not affected by all this and still operates normally. I had to cut the safe's footprint size hole in the carpet, firstly to drop the safe low enough and secondly to drill the holes and bolt the safe directly to the floor. Other than cutting the carpet and drilling 2 x 10mm holes in the floor, nothing else was modified.

I must however admit; the sloshing of the water in the internal water tank does take some getting used to!!

Very Well done :salute:
Would like to see more of what is going on at the back WWW Have you considered a build thread because it looks like there is a lot more going on, on that vehicle?
