Alex, I guess you will never really know how the vehicle was treated before so it will always be a risk.
But turbocharging a TD42 will set you back 45k+ so even if the turbo needs replacing it's a bargain. I good mechanic should be able to tell the condition of the engine.

If you are interested in a factory turbo 2003 for similar price mine is available. I will be back in SA on Wednesday and intensively advertising from then.
My wonderful wife has been promising to send interior photos for 3 weeks now!!
