Sump Gasket

Where can I get a sump Gasket for a good price. Don't want to go to stealers and want to do the job myself. There is a bit more than a sweat of an oil leak on my 4.5 GRX. On the coast it does not drip but at altitude I get about 10 drops over night.

Would be interesting to know how much they go for. My 4.2TD has a very slow leak on the sump. maybe a drop or two per day.
Is it quite a big job to change it? Or do you just unbolt from underneath, replace gasket and re-fit..?

You need to buy a gasket and a tube of nissan gasket sement you are gonna use 3% of the silicone but you need it

Wilkie, I think you are correct. I cannot recall a gasket being part of the things I used when I rebuild my motor years back. I think it was just the silicon. Make sure the sump and bottom of the block are spotlessly clean, otherwise the silicone doesn't get a good adhesion to the sump and block.
On the TD42 its not a major difficult job to remove the sump if I recall. Keep the wheels on the ground and jack up the suspension to give you a nice space between the front diff and the sump to be able to remove it. There are a few bolts at the back of the motor ( where the bellhousing and motor join) which if I recall were a bit tricky to get out, but nothing a little patience can't sort out.

Sorry - stupid question.
Is this straight silicon ? Or "liquid gasket". The manual seems to indicate it's "liquid gasket" (not that I have a clue what that is)... Can straight silicon be used for this ?
I'm just curious...

sorry my mistake Ian, I would say definitely use a "silicone type" gasket maker. This type of " silicone will handle the high oil temps and the oil itself...... oil is a bliksem, walk through oil with normal soled shoes and see how long your shoe soles last...

I've has good success with
https://www.permatex.com/products/gaske ... ket-maker/
Used it on gearbox housing where the only seal is the silicone, washing machine rubbers , shoes and more
prep is 90%of the work , ensure it is oil and dust free and also don't use to much as it will squeeze out and could get into oil ways

Ian I only use wurth" grey silicone sealer and it comes in a pressurized container and cost about R450.00
its expensive but worth it and also require proper prep and needs to cure for at least 12 hours...not even a turbo can blow that out

In the nissan gasket set you get a tube of the liquid gasket maker ......very good im sure you can buy it loose over the counter.....from the stealers of course
