Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Hello guys,

My patrol TB45 is chokimg while driving. Its an automatic trans. When putting on Neutral and back to Drive it solves the issue. Starts back a bit later on.
i am in durban for a week and need to fix befor i head back.
was thinking of taking it to SAC durban. Please advise guys i am in south durban.

Welcome here can be lots of things ....have you checked your aircleaner ?also your feul filter mabe your pump pressure is not on spec?

There was a post once about resetting the throttle positioning sensor. Mine also seemed that the choke was working overtime, but after the procedure it was better. I will have a look if I can't find the post on the forum for you

Thanks guys... while travelling back to home i found out somethi g. This happens more when up and downhill... when flat road its okay.
This makes me thinks of first clean the fuel tank.

The thing is that when it happens i pjt it on Neutral and then back on Drive and works well again... it happened several times and then stops...
My concern is the auto trans or torque converter...

Doubt that unless possibly caused by low oil level. Definately something that should be checked regularly.

My guess would be fuel filter or pump.

Hello all... i ve checked petrol pump pressure in fuel tank if dirty or not.. all clean and pump working great.
I do have my tappets making noise.. i think i need to have them checked... some black smoke started when idling high...
might the valves/combustion/choking related ?
please advise guys..

Pump checked its okay
Filter changed with original

Oil level okay but never changed it in 40 thousand km... do you think i should ? if yes please advise? heard lots of people doing it the wrong way and dammaging the transfert case... mine is auto.

May I ask how you checked the pump delivery pressure?

There's no way this can be related to the valves, and very unlikely it's gearbox oil.

The gearbox and transfer case oils are seperate though, so you can't damage the transfer case by changing the gearbox oil.

They said they done it by opening the fuel pump in the back of the car with tester.
Carpet was put back like you can imagine and plastic clip broken and smell of fuel all around.
Was not present...
I do not trust but had no choice.

Why thinking of transfert case/ gearbox is because ( sorry repeating myself) while driving at 100km/h and put N and back to D it working normally again and then starts again. Also happening only when long distances made. I unfortunatly use it as daily car untill other solution...
I know i am newbie and not a mechanic at all. Just a guy that is curious and wants to understand more than i know about cars. This to try not to be scammed.

I do consider every advise especially from u as i saw you did help a lot of people.
