Kamdebo, Karoo, Prins Albert

Hello all.

Taking the scenic route down to the Cape of Good Hope (hopefully not the Cape of Winds) this December.

Firstly, I would love any useful information on the Kamdebo and Karoo national parks, and m also looking for accommodation (camping or cheap self-service) near (but preferably outside of) Prins Albert.

Also, anybody interested in a mini GTG and a trail or two? Definitely want to try Atlantis... Will be in the area probably from around the 16th to around new years.

We stayed near Kamdebo in 2013.
At that time there was no accommodation inside the reserve yet.
That may have changed now. But for camping...., it is super hot in December. You are looking at 40deg plus.
Beautiful park, with magnificent view of the Valley of Desolation around Graaf Reinett.

We are planning a 5 day trip to Cape Town via Northern Cape and Tankwa.

When down in Cape Town, I would be interested in a Cape GTG at Honing Klip?

We stayed in Karoo national park a couple of years ago in the chalets. Quite nice with view over the vlaktes. Nice swimming pool. I though the chalets was a bit pricey although they do include breakfast. The camping facilities I hear is also nice have not stayed there myself yet.

What they do have is a place called the afsaal cottage which is all on its own in the park which looks very nice. Its an old shepards hut which they converted

That is where we strayed in December 2012

It is remote in the extreme. Took us almost two hours of jeep track driving for mthe main camp to the shepards hut. Also you cannot walk back if you have car problems a sthey have introduced lions.
I would go again, but not in December. Was a hot year. The "cold" water Jojo tank outside the hut was so hot, I could almost not hold my hand under it. Had been baking in the sun.
But if being in the middle of nowhere is your thing...

Morning Peter,

I saw a article in the Go / Wegry, Jun '15, magazine on the Kamdebo. I forgot to bring it along this morning to scan and mail to you, will do so tomorrow!
