1996 4.2TD ST

Hi everyone, I'm posting this on behalf of my brother. Vehicle is in Cape Town.
I joined the forum some time back with the intention of buying my brother's '96 4.2TD ST....and joining the Patrol community and learning more from the Manne that know what they are talking about. I have been trying to convince him to sell the vehicle to me for the past few years, but no luck and in the meantime I bought a LC 105 4.5 EFI ...
He has finally decided to sell the vehicle after some bad luck with overheating and other mechanical issues. He bought the vehicle in the Northern Cape and when it was drove down, it overheated due to the radiator being blocked by grass seeds! He since had the engine completely redone, turbo, gearbox, clutch overhaul, new head, injectors, diesel pump, intercooler, EGT gauge, 25% bigger radiator (the list goes on..) but I do not know the exact specs of the rebuild. Please give him a call for further details. Honestly I think he is a bit "gatvol" with spending so much money on repairs over the last few years, but I think by now he attended to all possible mechanical issues with the ST!
I know he spend about R90 000 or more in repairs on the vehicle in the past few years and need to recover his expenses. He is looking at a smaller, cheaper, newer vehicle that needs less maintenance.
hehe
Most of the repairs was done in house at my dad's workshop in Montague Gardens in Cape Town and some of the specialist work was outsourced.
IMHO I think he should rather keep the ST but, you know, what can I say.
As far as I know, he wants R120 000 to at least cover some of his expenses but think he is negotiable.
He has never registered the vehicle, as the traffic department told him the vehicle is a grey import??
This, after the vehicle was successfully registered and transferred between previous owners in the Northern Cape. So that is the only issue with the vehicle currently.
There is a person from Melkbos who wants to buy and strip the vehicle to use the chassis for his Navara. I told my brother he must rather try and sell the vehicle on this forum to someone who will really appreciate it for what it is. Stripping this vehicle will do it incredible injustice!!
Anyone in the club looking for a good example ST?
