Is the price right?

Hi All,

I have an opportunity to buy a 2004 patrol with 150000 Km's on the clock for R155k. The trans union guide says that retail should be +- R130k. Now I know that some vehicles do achieve more than the guide price but since I'm a total noob in the 4x4 world I don't really have a reference for the Patrol or any other 4x4 for that matter, so I though I'd ask the experts what they thought?

Below are some of the accessories and features;

Dual battery system, (needs new battery)
Koni offroad shocks fitted
Longrange fuel tank fitted (180 liters total – 140 main 40 sub tank)
Drawer system In the back - takes 6 ammo boxes for packing
Fridge slider – for 90l Fridge
Dastek engine management chip fitted.
2x extra Sparewheels and tyre
Mud terrain tyres fitted
Frontrunner Roofrack

She is in pretty good condition apart from some minor bush scratches which are to be expected. I took her for a test drive this weekend and boy was she smooth to drive. The kids and missus all loved it and i must say i was impressed but having never owned a 4x4 before I guess I'm coming off a low base.

Fuel consumption is a bit scary though, but I've been reading on the forums that when one considers total cost including maintenance etc. and the fact that once off the road all the 4x4 have similar figures then it's not so bad.

any input would be appreciated.

Regards,

Hi Stjepan

Welcome to the forum
Take the car to Graham Cummings (Pathmaker on this forum) to check out the car for you.
It is amazing what he can detect which total noobs (like me) dont notice.
He does not charge for it.
It is worth the time and effort though.
His cell number is oh, eight, three, four 177, five oh 3.

What you describe does not sound that bad, especially given the extas.
I assume it is a 4.8. For the 4.5 it would be too steep. The transition from the one to the other was in 2004.

Edit: Correction, 2004 would be the 4.8, but rhe shape is likely to be before facelift, which I think happened around the end of 2004.

I agree, with all the extras and the low kilo's its a good price. if its well taken care off you wont find more 4x4 for that price.

Yip.... exactly what Alex said there.... First step, arrange with the seller to let Graham take a look at it for you. He is a legend on the Patrols !!

4.8 or 4.5 and is it the GL or the GLX .....that is the question... It may also be a 4.5 that was only registered in 2004. My 4.2 diesel was made in 1998 but was registered in 1999, so year model can be deceiving !!

Those are nice extras but the long range tank is a standard and not an extra

Thanks for your responses and welcome!

As they say "the devil is in the detail" I was so sure I put down all the info .

It is the 4.8 GRX Tiptronic. the P64 model with the 198KW motor. Not sure if that makes a difference as to knowing if it is pre face lift or not.

I guess the short answer is "Yes, the price is right", just take the car to Graham to check out before making the final decision (if you can)
