Patrol 4.2 TD - mods for more power

Hi all........
Just recently purchased a 2010 4.2 Td bakkie.
I was planning to keep it stock standard, but I don't really think that idea is going to fly......
From the reading that I've done so far, it seems that the South Africa version of my vehicle has a rated power output of 90kw, but the Australian version has 117kw.
Is anyone able to give me a definitive idea of what modifications would be needed to gain the 27kw difference..
I tend to keep my vehicles for a very long time, so don't mind spending a reasonable amount to achieve this.
Other mods planned are limited to an ARB locker for the front dif, and a replacement front bumper.
Has anyone a recommendation of where would be a good place to buy a locker and have it fitted in Limpopo / Gauteng area.
Many thanks in advance for any replies and advice....
Dave.

For the locker try Ronald Hairbottle at TAC 4x4 Traction Accessories in Polokwane.

Well for one a full madman monitor system especially for egt water temp and level. Then a good and proper fat 3 or even 4 inch open exhaust including the turbo down pipe. Then a boost aneroid and the fuel pump lift set to Franses spec and a slight tweak on the fuel screw for optimization and or in combination a much bigger front mount cooler. I have on o8 tdi and only did the exhaust the boost aneroid and lift settings and a tiny fuel screw adjustmet to aus spec take note the pump was respec'd to aus turbo intercooler spec with an aneroid on a pump test bench! To get to the point without to much mods I'm doing 108hp on the rear wheels. If you want you can even boost higher ie at 0.8 in stead of the std 0.5 I'm still on std boost

Just remember that the new front bumper must not move the air a way from the bonnet to make the air from the turbo hotter

Thankyou very much for the replies....some nice advice and info.
I'm a bit wary to start fiddling with fuel / boost settings etc myself, so would prefer to take it somebody that has a lot of experience with these vehicles.
Is there anybody that you guys can recommend that could carry out some of the adjustments / upgrades that are mentioned above by Andre?
Cheers.
Dave.

Well Dave depending on which area you are there are a few options to you, I would personally leave the boost and fuel and even a bigger cooler for last. Any good certified fuel pump specialist can modify the pump to start things off basically you need to get hold of the aus turbo intercooler fuel pump specs and settings printed hand them to the pump specialist and tell him this is what you want it to do, further they must add the boost aneroid to the pump. Then add a performance exhaust Id recommend viper exhaust systems for that job. The madman system to watch everything can be bought online and installed by an auto electrician or if you have some electrical knowledge you can do it yourself.

Dave,
Congrats with your bakkie, you are going to love it.
To get more power is very easy, like Andre said. I have done all the tuning on my own Patrol and its really not that hard to do and if you are willing to be patient and do very small adjustments at a time while monitoring the EGT you will be very safe.
Upping the boost to 0.8 bar is 100% safe and adjusting the fuel to match the new boost is just as easy. By just looking at the amount of smoke your Patrol produces and looking at the EGT you can get it almost perfect. Just changing the boost and fuel will already give you the power you are looking for. You dont have to take the pump off and adjusted to get more power, the standard pump is fine like it is. I would just recomment getting the pump timing (pump lift) advanced a bit which will make the engine run sweet.
3" straight exhaust will also help allot and your bakkie will sound amazing. Your turbo will also spool up a bit faster with this exhaust and will run a bit cooler which in return will make it last longer.
The front mount intercooler is great, but you can leave that part until last as your top mount will work fine.
Christo, Andre, Stefansie, Cedric and myself all run pretty much the same boost and our engine produce between 125kw - 140kw and around 400Nm on the flywheel

Thanks gents....
I really appreciate the responses, and am happy to know that I can up the power on my bakkie fairly easily.
I think there was a post or two that recommend SAC in centurion. It seems that they can fit a 3" exhaust, do some tuning to the fuel pump etc, and also fit a madman monitoring system.
Has anyone had good/bad experience from this company.
If they can do the work reliably and well, I would prefer to have them do it all in one go.
Anyhow guys, thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions.
Cheers.
Dave.
