Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Good Day,

i'm looking for some help, as my standard Nissan chrome rims has developed a leak, causing a slow puncture.
It also appears that the previous owner had the same problem as the spare has a tube it it, and looks like it has been sealed on the outside.
Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so how did you resolve it

Yes, it's a known factory fault and AFAIK subject to a recall.

You could try your luck getting Nissan to replace them, but I doubt you'll get very far on a nearly 20 year old car.

But definately replace them soonest.

Speak to dawid volskenk he might have a set of patrol rims for you ....just remember the resess on the hub is different to other bakkies and cars if you opt to buy a set of mags or steel rims you must have them cut first

Yes, Replacing the rims with snazzy new mags will be first prize.

Option 2 is inner tubes , but has disadvantages.

A temporary solution would be to use a sealant that you pump into the tubeless tyre similar to what we use on our mountain bikes.
It is called "Fuggit". It will seal small holes , but is definitely only a short term solution. Over time it forms solid rubber balls that mess with wheel balance.
If you have a set of tyres that are near to replacement , it will buy you time to budget and source new wheels.

Suggest you rather have a set of spacers made. Far simpler and will not influence the structure or integrity of the rims. I have them on my Troll and will loan one should you need a sample.

Put the wheel in a bath filled with water. Find the leak ,Remove the tyre and weld it from the inside ,only a small tack on the place of leak ,I have done it a few years
ago and no problems.

Maybe as a get-you-home, but don't let me see you doing it!

I bought my car with four cracked rims into which somebody had put tubes. Fistly I got a lot of puncturtes because tubeless tires are rough inside and they ate through the tires. Then one day on the freeway a rim reached the point where it split open about half an inch. The tube then squeezed out the split and got cut on the rim, causing the second nearest thing to a blow-out I have ever experienced. Not fun.

You are in effect saying that standard Patrol wheels are structurally unsound, as they already have the correct larger ID to fit the Patrol hubs.

I personally would rather modify the rims than subject the wheel bearings and half-shafts to the extra loads spacers introduce.

Jip and you put all the stress on wheel studs....nissan designed it like that for a reason. ...patrols are heavy
