Event: Diesel & Sparks
Venue: TBA (somewhere in striking distance of Gauteng, most likely brakpan Rock Raceway racetrack, Hartbeespoort or Rallystar track)
Date : Sturday 4 October
Rules:
Good camaradie
Braai afterwards only
Helmets & fire exstingiusher compulsory for drag event
No handicap for Diesels
Towbar compulsory, as there will be a drag event towing a sizable loaded trailer and a weight in the boot.
Diesel camp and Sparks camp to nominate one admninistrator each to compile and process the results.
Participants:
Marnus Malan
Tinus Lots
Ricster
Grant
...
Fill up this list, also include ideas, if there is enough interest I'll start talking to Rock Raceway, Rallystar and see what will be viable options.
The other idea is that all of us enter the WOMZA dirt Rallysprint at Hartbeespoort in September. Cobus said WOMZA will create a class for the Patrols. this means we pay R200 each and we piggyback on their timing & emergency services infrastructure - in my view the best idea.

Sounds like great fun ....
What about we meet at forest hill shopping centre we have a good clear view of highway we take a patrol at a time then we go on highway towards diepsloot timing the pull off to 160 turn around and come back
The one in september sounds great.....

OK, following some thought and deliberation it will be the most responsible to do this excercise on the WOMZA infrastructure, given the regulated invironment and availability of emergency services etc.
There will be the following categories in which each participant must compete:
1. Rally sprint (dirt)
2. Straight line pull of 1.5 km
3. Straight line pull of 1.5 km with 1 ton trailer and 500kg's in the Patrol
4. 500m trailer reverse through section of track
1 & 4 is for the fun, a combination of 2 & 3 will settle the diesel petol question. I think adding the weight-pull gives a fair consideration, as it play into the strength and purpose of the diesels. Item 1 lands you the trophy.
WOMZA will create the Patrol class for the rally sprint, but we must provide the prize money and the trophy. For the trophy we just need a simple design that I can have lasercutted, polished and mounted on a snazzy harwood plank. There are some clever draughting guys here, please support me with a design for the trophy and I will see that it gets made.

I don't think I've ever taken my Patrol past 145 - 150km/h..... definitvely not on the Kumhos. Those tyres stick so well to the tar that its almost impossible to get close to the 160km/h mark. The Maxxi muddies I have now might give me a better chance now.

Tinus, The highway will ensure not everybody have a fair and equal run. Secondly, imagine grant is doing the timing - Ferrari will want to buy his diesel engine. Womza makes a lot of things easier, safer and will prevent Ricster from bumping the tannie in die Daihatshu off the road to maintain his momentum.

Ian, get a leave form from HR.

Ricster, only if it is very heavy, but don't worry about wind resistance, you need to get ABOVE 80km/h for it to really make a difference...
