Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Guys, what are my locally available options for the following on a 4.8 GRX:

• a bullbar or front bumper replacement with integrated winch mounting point and hi-lift jack point
• rear bumper with hi-lift jack point

Can a hi-lift jack be used on the back of the car without fitting a replacement rear bumper? The front I assume is not really a possibility? I'll admit I haven't really looked at the possibilities yet by climbing underneath so right now am just drawing on the collective experience here.

Clem - Hi.. A F I K the Nudge'M front bull bar [local manufactured] comes at the lowest price -- Oom Jymmy now makes them winch compatible - AND they are good looking too [Look at UNGULI of Kobus [Herrie op Safari] -- really compliments.

Rear -- I saw G-Tec's one on Tinus' new Trol the weekend and it looks better than the factory plastic

I have seen a number of cars with hi-lift jacking tubes welded to the sides of the towbar (mine included), and while this can work, it is in my opinion less than ideal.

In my opinion, to get the most out of a hi-lift jack, you need to be able to lift on weight centreline (which of course shifts on sideslopes) and with the jack's own jaw, not a pointymagoodgit.

However, it's a lot better than nothing, and rather inexpensive. But G-Tech's rear bumper is quite nice.

The front is more diffcult, but to be honest probably the best place to use a hi-lift jack most of the time is under the rocksliders?

I just use the wheel-buddy to lift the wheel with the Hi-Lift jack.

I had one of those at a stage of the game that I had purchased many years ago but I found that it pulled the highlift jack into the bodywork of the vehicle. But it is an option that I am looking at again but I think it is possible to change the design a little bit so as to improve it. How have you found it?

If you have them fitted! I do not think the running boards on my car will last 3 ns!

Many thanks Tinus. I am just going to go slowly with this for now. At this point in time it is really about a winch mounting point. The other thing is that I will need to be very careful with what ever I fit for the simple reason that I cannot afford to extend the overall length of the vehicle very much, if at all – it only just fits into my garage (caravan height designed for the off-road vehicles) and increasing the total length by as little as 15 cm will mean that it will no longer fit. But we will see!

As a point of interest, what make of bull bars do you have?

Hi Clem, I just use a piece of wood on the tire just to make sure it will not get damaged.

I already had to use it when I got stuck in mud in Botswana and had to lift both rear wheels to put stumps under the tyres.
