Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

I have just come back from some beach driving in Namibia and I need to find a place that can clean all the sand and salt out from under the vehicle, somewhere in Joburg or Pretoria. Does anyone know a good place?

Overdrive, in the mean time while you are searching, get the garden sprayer under your car. Run it for a few hours moving it slowly from front to back.

Probably do a better job than 90% of chassis washes...

Thanks Peter - a useful suggestion. But I am still hoping to find one with a high pressure hose and an inspection pit.

O/D - In Pretorai - New Lands on RUBENSTEIN Rd, behind Newlands Trailers [on the crest as you top the hill] (from either side) is a car wash with a pit - you drive over, mannikji gets underneath with HP hosepipe [[ just tell them NO HD soap on your wheels [anders was hulle jou bearings se ghries uit :-) ]]
AND they are reasonable too
Open on weekends - I think till 4 or 5 pm [Sundays closing bit earlier -- They did Tsessebe for me after Faces of Namib trippi while back

I was actually eagerly waiting for some replies on this post too.
I am actually surprised that there is not more of a recognised business in proper chassis and engine cleaning - I.e. where it is done with the right skills and bearing grease (and prop-shaft grease) is not lost in the process.

We all need it after a good weekend away.

I do not have my engine cleaned anymore, as I am afraid of compromising the plugs with water.
No matter how much you explain to the car washers, they still spray indiscriminately over the engine bay.

Alex, this is not meant to disparage you or your Lexus, but this is opne of the areas of the PAtrol that I really admire: the detail that Nissan engineers went to (and the success they achieved) to minimize the potential effect of water in the engine bay.

I have often claen my engine with a high-pressure hose, and unlike all the other vehicles I have ever owned, it never has any effect whatsoever. I can spray the distrubutor, around the plugs, anywhere. Even with the engine off and cold. And it starts first-time and runs absolutely smoothly thereafter. This was obviously and visibly a priority during the design and positioning of the plug cavities and distributor, among others.

The only place they got it wrong, is the idler bearing on the power-steering belt.

Maybe the sourced those bits & design from Ford or Mazda or even Toy ??
