Patrol creaking noise!! Help

Hi Manne

We are leaving for the Kgalagadi and Mabuasehube this weekend and know it seems Dzombo developed some kind of creaking/kraak geluid when I accelerate and then again when I brake.

The noise only lasts a second or so, normally the worst from pull off and then again braking, once up to speed it doesn't happen.

It developed this the last week and it's making me crazy!

Help please - it sounds like my vehicle is in pain!

Difficult to diagnose the cause of the creaking noise from the info you gave.... but I am thinking along the lines of suspension rubbers/bushes are dry. I don't know if this is the best thing to try, but maybe spray a little Q20 on one rubber/bush at a time and if the noise disappears then you hit the jackpot.....

Ricster advice is good -- only, NOT Q20, get WINFLON [at Midas] silicon base spray - does noet eat other grease or rubbers

ALSO - le onder en kyk enjin mountings een vir een
EN kyk of die bumpers mooi vas is
BOEZMAN het my GRYS gehad met so n kraakery -- toe was dit die side-steps :-(

Will notmal silicone spray work?

I have Wynflon as well as normal silicone spray.

Concern with that is - dust.

The noise appears during acceleration and braking, not anything when going over bumps.

Liaan, is this noise your Hilux? If so, is it the old one with the solid front axle or independent front suspension?

I'm still thinking suspension rubbers...

Ok chaps, hold fire here.

Firstly, there should be no sliding or metal to matel movement on any bushes. The movement in bushes should all be flexing of the rubber, which shouldn't make any sound. Check that all the bolts through the bushes are tight, and that the bushes are not torn or perished by levering them with a big screwdriver.

Carefully check the engine/gearbox mounts as well as the body mounts.

One question: when you brake/decellerate, do you use engine braking as well or do you step on the clutch immediately?

Hi Peter

Engine braking together with brakes or bracking with cluth depressed gives exactly the same outcome.

Noise is more severe during braking(both sides) and less when accelerating(then only the left side)

I drove through some deepish mud about a month ago to rescue another stuck vehicle on a fun day(I put a sprayer under my vehicle for a long time making sure none was left behind - I hate mud!) - could it be the mud making the bushes/rubbers/mounts make these creaking/croaking noises?

I doubt if it's mud.

I would take a long hard look at the rubbers of the front control arms?
