Help! SWAMBO filled Patrol with 80 liters Diesel!

Just had to tow my 4500 GRX patrol last night. SWAMBO filled it with 80 Liters of Diesel!
Now I'm sitting with two problems:
1) How to fix the Patrol? (Was just planning to drain the diesel as much as possible, remove the fuel filter and replace with new and then fill up with petrol again)
2) Can I use the R1000 of Diesel in my Terrano 2.7 TDI? The plan was to add it approx 25liters to a full tank?
Here are the facts:
Only R1000,80 diesel was put into the truck (luckily she only filled the main tank). Assuming a rate of R12,50, she put in appprox 80 liters with 10 liters of petrol... thus I have approx 89% diesel mixture
Any recommendations welcome.

If you drain the diesel not too much harm would come to the Patrol.
I would however not use the Diesel in the Terrano seeing it is contaminated and may do serious harm, even if only 10% petrol.
Anybody correct me if I am wrong but I would not take the chance.
Regards

Hello Abri,
Drain the diesel, add it in 5 liters a tank to the petrol or the diesel - you'll be fine.
Regards

Thanks Abri,
A search of the internet (you know it must be true because it is on the internet

) provided me some info where the diesel guys are purposefully adding petrol (ULP) to the diesel in the winter months....
I don't want to use R1000 as firelighters/parrafin substitutes... even if Eskom's "beurtkrag" is just around the corner...

I would be a bit more causious if it was my car, but I suppose thats just me. If anything, I would go with Marakasmalan on this one. 5L per tank shouldn't do much harm. Speak to David( Hillbilly) on this forum. He has a 2,7 sani and uses all sorts of fuel. I would also go as far as adding a can(500ml) of 2stroke oil to a tank full of diesel.
Otherwise I could take it off your hands at a good price. Where abouts are you?

When using diesel contaminated with petrol you must be very carefull. I would not take the risk if I were you. R1000 is nothing in comparison with the potential damage if you get it wrong.

Store the contaminated diesel and add to Patrol's fuel at no more tha 5 litres at a time .. BUT then also add 20 ml Two Stroke oil and 100 ml acetone
That wil clean the valves and piston tops nicely as well as keep the injectors clean

Hi All,
Thanks for all the advice. Removed all the diesel and then filled with Petrol. After some heavy diesel smoke eventually she took.... I went for a drive around the block and relised she has a miss-fire. I thought I'll be able to identify the culpret spark-plug by removing the leads one at a time - but could not determine the difference in missfiring.... I'm suspicious that one of the spark plugs are dirty. The exhaust fumes are smelling like petrol, not just the rich smell as usual.
Any suggestions - I need to gather my thoughts for next weekend to replace all the spark plugs - am I on the right track?
(I have to say the engine is soo large, I need afoot-stool just to reach it

)
Thanks so far

your miss fire may be caused by dirt on the air flow meter. You may have gotten a bit of that oily diesel smoke from the breather pipe clogging the airflow meter. I may be way wrong on this though, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong.... I drive a diesel
all the sensors in the petrol may be picking up all these different readings due to the diesel ingestion. This may take a little time to clear out. If you have a catalytic converter .... well then this could possibly be a potential problem.... well not really.... just cut the damn thing out.... your motor will probably run better than it did before the diesel ingestion.
