Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

a Friend of mine is putting a 4.2td motor in his Patrol

The vehicle is a 2011 with 36000km, motor is still in the vehicle.

What could he get for it?

Considering all the risks of a heart transplant on a perfectly good (albeit thirsty) engine,

Why not sell the whole car and buy a TD4.2?

He would like to do that, but there is no 4.2 diesel wagons available new any more.

Just got the info from Alex, as I was looking for a replacement engine.
But this approach looks not realistic as with the engine goes the wire loom, the sensors and the ECU.

So my opinion is to sell the vehicle as is and buy a TB42, better TB42-T

Saw this right now, how about an import from Japan?
I've done that and got a TB42-T with 32'000 k's about 5 years ago.
They are around.

If there are issues in registration of imported vehicles in SA you might consider channeling it through Botswana or Namibia.

This may sound strange comming from a Patrol fan - but if I were that keen on a powerful diesel in a monster 4x4 I would just trade it in on a v8 diesel LC!!!
If you've never driven one - then try it sometime - makes my 4.8 look like a 1200cc, and very good fuel consumption!
(BUT - it will NEVER be a Patrol)

The problem with importing a vehicle, is that no bank will finance it, and insurance is also a issue.

The V8 cruiser is at the moment only available in the 200, if you could get it in a 76 I would agree do that, but a 200 is to soft, and at R998 900.00 it is a lot of money for a stock overlander.

Must say if the V8 76 comes, I would want one.

Apparently the V8 single turbo in the 70 series is coming out later in the year, will have to see how it's going to do on our diesel "reliability". I have read about it in the following article, link below.
