Yes Ricst - this is such -- on the other thread it was I'D na coz it falls in school holiday, one has to mark that loooooooong ahead of time [anders gaan jy alleen .. soos nou met die "Bible-4-Christmas" na Botswana

How do these "outreach" programmes work?

Yo Dieselfan - did send you a P/M . .thanx for asking.

on 2nd thought - Hereweith my reply:
Each "outreach" have a different goal / purpose - In short: We identify a need in a specific community, the we muster support and logistics, and try to alleviate that need - or at least SOME of it.
For RICHTERSVELDt we are driving a programme for "Na-skool plekke van veiligheid' [After school places of safety" for the kids where they can learn and play in a safe environment so that a 10 year old is not raped 3 times in one week [and she too scared to complain, coz she thinks it is HER fault]

We also take parcels of food necessities with Bibles and a visit and 'a KUIER and sharing the Gospel with the goat & sheep herders who don't see a pastor or church in years [That is a challenge - finding them in that vastness of the Richtersveldt [groter as Frankryk]

All the Outreaches we undertake are Christian based [and that is NOT negotiable] - BUT if a non believer wants to join on an Outreach -- Glory be !!! They come back, converted and a much better Outreach person than I can ever dream to be..

We have an Outreach to Botswana 15 - 22 Dec. To take Bibles to the Missionaries there to hand out as Christmas gifts and also to show the JESUS Film at the cattle posts in the evenings

Thanks Kagiso this might be what I need. I have a buddy down in durbs doing evangelical outreaches in Moz. This sounds like good hard work, with great returns.

What sort of amount of money as donations or anything goes? ie budget?

Eisjjj - bit quick to put a budget out already - so read some "assumptions" in this .. .oh wait, I will P M you on this one [it is closely linked to the actual programme - which in turn has to be finalised by the the "Team" [that is me and some of the group going on the Outreach .. you wanna volunteer??  ] and the local Church groups of various denominations [All my Outreaches are multi denominational and not restricted to a single church group .. as long as they declare the Holy Trinity]

Some of the things 2-B-done:
Via the school contacts I have there, I D the really needy kids, collect clothes for them, make the parcels an hand to them [not a BIG do, quiet like, not to knock their self esteem]
Arrange a big outing to the beach for Beach Games on at least ONE of the days, ending in big bonfire and braai [including the transport from EksteenFontein; Kubus; Sanddrift; Reuning etc.. [Buses and us and the local community of Alexander Bay & Port Nolloth .. I am trying to get Springbok in on the 'act']

The rest of the time we will have "games & sport" in the villages with the kids --
while myself and some of the 'Grootkoppe' plan and project the "Safe Centers'
THEN also - at least fifty boxes of groceries to the shepherds out in the G K W -- we go bundu bashing and searching for them, hand over a box of "goodies" [Basic necessities] (Do you know the feeling yo get when you can hand over a simple roll of toilet paper to an Outannie of 70 who has not even SEEN a roll in YEARS and must make do with what grows in the veldt? That gratitude is bigger as when you get a new Nissan Patrol 4,8 Pick up .. trust me. OH YES, and 100 Afrikaans Bibles [at least, @ R74.00 each]

Then - we as Outreach Group has two days [one night] in Richters Park [our 'off day']

And I aim to take a group [max 10 vehicles] down "Road to Hell" as a fund raiser for Outreach Africa [can't keep up with all the expenses on just me pension

NOW - lets try to put a value on all that PLUS the fuel ±4000 Km at your fuel consumption
Food & accommodation for ± b3tween 30 - 50 people: En-route and while there..
