Rear Replacement Bumper

Someone on either this website or the Nissan 4x4 forum asked me info about my rear bumper, which I had replaced, but I can not remember who it was. So here it is anyway.

Due to the plasticky - new word - nature of the standard rear bumper, I've ripped out both lights / indicators left and right hand side  , tear the plastic bumper out of it's mountings whenever I departed on a steep angle. It really pissed me off. SO I decided to try my new 4x4 insurance!! And voila. They paid out!! I had it made up in Louis Trichardt by a company called E&O welding. It is one of the owner's son that does the work. The young chap really impressed me. He does a very neat job. And calls everyone OOM. .

The sub-frame is 8mm thick steel and the rest is 4mm steel plate. I left the car with them for 6 days. When I went to collect the car, I was shocked at the flimsiness of the plastic bumper. When I went to Nissan to get a price on a new light, they charged me R1780.00 for the LENS ONLY!! :steamingears:. The whole light fitting , lens and casing, was R3750. for one damn light. :hanged: . I was so pissed off at that...

So in the end it cost R6500 to make the bumpers. They then quoted me for a front bumper, R8500.00. That was end of last year. So it might be a bit more expensive now. I saw the bumper they built for the owner's Land Rover Disco II, and it was really very nice. Problem is that they need to build it on the vehicle, as there are no templates / montages to work from. I now Burnco makes one in the Cape, but they remove the whole thing, where as E&O left the aluminium piece in the middle, and only done the sides.

I like it it works for me, I can jack it up on the bumper, and I fell off a rock and it got scratched, not smashed to bits. I see however, that I can get the two rear lights - the ones at high level with the reverse light in - on eBay for R1200.00 a pair, and then they got indicators in the bottom "cell".

Dankie Koos.

Jy is reg.
