Hello Alamal
What effect will bigger tyres have on my patrol's power if I fitt 285/75/16 I want to increase my clearance on the diff.
I want to do some technical trails (not copmetitions) and overlanding.
Regards

Boet! Krag is daar meer as genoeg, en petrol is daar baie!

Dis 'n goeie vraag
Ek sal ook graag wil weet want ek beplan dieselfde tire grootte.
Will it have a negative effect? But I have to agree with G-MAN. Power there is a plenty in a Patrol. And I believe that the extra diff clearance will make it really unstoppable. Dup, do have a suspension upgrade? Please post some pics of your Patrol, please. Always nice to see other members' rides.
Do we have any Stickers or badges for the Patrol4x4 website? Maybe we should make some...

She's a beauty!!
I just LOVE my Patrol. The best thing I ever owned. Love it to bits!! Patrols are the best things there are on and off the road. What suspension are you looking at? I've got OME and I am very satisfied. Unbelievable wheel travel, comfort, safety and endurance!!

Sorry to say, but consumption will be effected.

Nothing to stress about.

Offroad will be awesome!

Im running 305/70/17 and it has no effect on my power, but consumption sucks!!!

Im just waiting for prices will get it tommorow, Im Looking at Iron Man or OME the guy that I spoke to say he uses Iron man and recomends them becuase of the price being alot cheaper than OME and not a big difference in performance, but if I want OME he will gladly fit them also.
What do you think

Hi AJ. I have had OME on all my Patrols and the last two i have changed to Ironman, both do the job just fine.

If the money difference is big than go for Ironman.

Hi Guys
So the 4.8 GL Patrol went from std suspension and tyres (275/70/16) to OME light duty (2" lift) and 285/75/16 MTR's.
The std setup fuel consumption was stabilising at between 5,0 - 5,4 - 5,7 combined cycle consumption (offroad, city, open road driving)
I consider the std setup to be overgeared as the engine was running above 3000 rpm in 5th.
The modified setup has a far better ride quality, the gearing is spot on and works really well, even when towing the imaine trailvan.
GPS indicates 116 at speedo 120, so accuracy is a lot better, remember that the tyres are 2nd hand, so new ones would have been even more accurate.
Had to gear down to 4th up the Bo-Swaarmoed Pass outside of Ceres on the way to Matroosberg last weekend (went from approx 575 m asl to 1204 m asl (above sea level) within 18 km of twisty mountain pass roads.
The tyres make a moer of a noise compared to the tar road versions!
I suspect that the on road consumption might be worse or differently stated "more accurate", and offroad consumption worse with some serious playing ... watch this space.
