GQ se clutch makes funny noise

Hello al die slim manne

My GQ is starting more and more to make a rather funny gggrrrrr noise when I put the vehicle into gear , mostly second gear but sometimes in the morning also reverse. In the morning when it sometimes makes that noise I take it out of gear and put it back into gear and the noise would be gone. The noise is only there when I depress the clutch, I have picked up if I press the clutch just when it engage there is very very little noise, if I depress the clutch fully to th efloor then the noise is rather load when it is there. It sounds as if something is not releasing when it should and then scraping against metal??

I can pull away in fourth gear no slipping and I do not need to rev my lorrie to pull away in fourth

Thrust bearing ?
Release pin ?

Shalom

Hi Jules, sounds like your clutch release bearing (not sure, mine makes the same noise sometimes) The clever guys will be able to tell you for sure.

  ....Me thinks a thrust bearing. When the bearing is under load the noise will be more evident than when under no load.

Charlie you must keep us posted when you will be in Richards Bay

Is the thrust bearing under load when the vehicle is in gear or when you depress the clutch

Jules, there is a lever that pushes the clutch plate from the pressure plate ( or the other way around ). When your foot is off the clutch there is no load on the bearing. If you look under your patrol you will see where the piston pushes against this lever ( it sticks out slightly from the g/box ) as soon as you press in the clutch this lever is on a pivot point and the other end of the lever is forked ( no not swearing  ) and on this fork is the thrust bearing which now puts the bearing under load. So when you press the clutch in the bearing is under load.... foot off the clutch .... no load.

Hi Jules, I know the official language of this forum is english but I'n gonna reply in afrikaans.

Hi Jules, was supposed to have come down this comming weekend for sister-in-law's birthday, but am unable to, so my daughter is taking my place, she is in Pmb this week giving a course and Donald is picking her up on Thursday (I think) for the weekend then she flies home on Monday "maybe". I will let you know when we come down and we can meet for meat :rolling: at The Don. If you see my daughter Chanelle introduce yourself to her please. I think your clutch, pressure plate and flywheel are the old standerd type that we still have on the petrol models, the duel mass flywheel is on the newer 3.0l diesels to smooth the tourque impulses that they produce. (am not 100% sure of my facts on this maybe TourdeFrance or Grootseuin can comment).

Yip, the old Y60 TB42 and Y61 TB45E definitely use old school solid flywheels and not the new fangled dual mass affairs.
