Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

What an awesome device. I researched a bit and found it can also display transmission temps - just what I've been looking for to keep an eye on this when towing the boat.
Question is though - will this work on the Patrol. I did find a list of vehicles on one of the sites and although a couple of NIssan models are mentioned eg sunny, Xtrail, etc... ., the Patrol is not mentioned.

If it works on the Patrol I will definately buy!

In fact, this looks like such a lekker toy, I decided to take a chance and just ordered mine. It should also work with my Jeep which gives problems with error codes - so can now reset them myself. Should arrive in couple of days - will keep you posted.
If it works - I could order a bunch of them for interested persons...

Hmmmmmm..... our GL 4.2 diesels can't even spell ODB ..... ..... nevermind have an ODB port to connect that.

Will only work on OBD compliant vehicles which is less than 15% of the vehicles on the SA market - sorry guys

If you want to test if youre vehicle is OBD compliant or not i can assist but can almost surelly tell you it has to be an european brand after 2005 , and american after that and even seen some 07 that werent and most asians were only in 2010 , Patrol being imported might be different but i doubt it

For those OBD complaint vehicles i have an OBD flight recorder ( black box ) and obd reader in a kit for less than 4k

What you need to remember though is in SA we dont have any OBD or Emissions laws that are actively enforced so the manufacturres safe a tonne of money by not fitting OBD Protocol compliant systems
And please dont think that becuase your vehicle has an OBD socket its OBD compliant - NOT SO

You might be able to pick up some OBD data on some vehivles but are in no way near as effective as using a designated scan tool , on the most OBDII protocol looks for 20 odd something bits of data all related to emmisions in the end of the day so no ABS etc guys

As said earlier i have OBDII devices and then obvioulsy the real deal devices also feel free to come visit me and we will put both on the same vehicle and you see the difference yourself

Grootseun, do you have any idea what processor the Patrol 4.8 ECU uses? ARM?

Does anybody have a dead or damaged ECU (4.5 or 4.8, NOT the diesel) that I can have to desect and snoop around with. That would be the first step, second step would be to get one that was "faulty", or in some form "semi-working". It would be interesting to see if there is any way to hack the ECU, but this will all depend on how much of the firmware can be accessed and updated.
