Patrol Coils into Pajero

I just learned recently that the Aussies seem to fit standard Y60 (GQ) or Y61 (GU) rear coils in the rear of Generation 2 Pajeros (the ones that still had a beam axle in the rear) on quite a regular basis. The outside diameter of the two vehicles' coils are very similar, but the Patrol coils are longer and are wound out of heavier wire, so the Y60 coils seem to yield a lift of around 2" in a Paj and the Y61 coils can be good for a lift of up to 4". The Paj owners are obviously able to pick up second hand Patrol coils out of lifted vehicles for relatively little (perhaps even for free), thus making for a nice budget lift for them.

I thought I would just share this bit of info, so that members here who might wish to dispose of original coils are aware of this possibility and the opportunity to perhaps assist fellow 4x4 enthusiasts (albeit drivers of a different brand of vehicle).

my father in law just fitted EFS on his 4.8, and left the shocks and coils at the fitment centre (why i do not know i keep EVERYTHING that comes off of my car) with only 20,000km wear.... and now his son just bought a Gen 2 pajero..... so now it is follow up time.

What do fitment centres typically do with the left behind parts? If they weren't given back to me i'd at least want some kind of discount!

Gerrrit - love the blister fender pajero!

We managed to get the coils and shocks back from the fitment centre so looking forward to the self-fitment!

Great! Just be aware that you will need longer rear shocks to deal with the 3" to 4" lift from the Patrol Coils, else most of the rebound travel will be lost. You will also have to jack up the front of the Paj by tweaking the torsion bars, but there you can probably only go 2" or so higher, perhaps a little more if you shave the rebound stops to liberate a little additional rebound travel.
