Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Hi,

Nissan told me that that both my Control Arm Bushes are worn and that one cannot simply replace the bushes, but the entire control arm costing around R4500.00 an arm! After chatting with a friend, he directed me to a site where it looks like you can order the bushes separately. Has anyone just replaced the bush for their control arm, or was Nissan correct in saying that the entire control arm needs to be replaced?

Daniel, is this front or rear suspension arms?

Anyway, if you had to replace as a unit, why would there be detail instructions for fitting the bushes into the arms (both front and rear) in Nissan's official maintenance manual? Methinks somebody is cocking you a snook?

Haha, agreed. Thanks for confirming that (It is the front Control Arms b.t.w). I did not even check the Nissan Manual, but it did sound a bit weird that one has to replace the entire control arm because the bushes cannot be replaced separately!

There is a guy here in Pomona, Kempton, that can fix those bushes - he even make engine mounts!

I assume you are referring to the bushes that are pressed into the radius arms at the front where they are pinned to the axle housing? As far as I know, the part numbers for those bushes (BUSH,LOWER LINK) are:

54560-01J00 (For most Y61s)
54560-VB011 or 54560-VB012 for some of the older ones.

The part is treated as a being available separately in the Nissan Japan parts system, but Nissan SA might have decided to regard the radius arm as an inseperable assembly, i.e. to only support the level of the complete radius arm with both bushes pressed in.

Gerrit do you know what the difference is between the two? Is it only the rubber hardness/shape that changes, or is there a difference in diameters or width?

I ask this because looking at the Superior Engineering website, they seem to use the same arms for both the Y60 and the Y61, and they also seem to supply the same bushing kits (although I have not tried to order any of the above)?

If I can add.
The Toyota L/C bushes will fit to and they are cheaper from the agents.
OME sell those bushes to.But in my opinion they are to soft.

Pieter, I am afraid that I don't know, but I would be very surprised if the parts are not interchangeable, at least in terms of fit.

Frans, why do you say they are too soft? Surely the softer they are, the better your front axle's articulation will be?

By the way, the Toyota part number for those bushes is 48702-60050. The same part is used on the 80 Series and also on the 100 Series GX (that vehicle's model code is actually 105).
