Patrol Subtank Issue

Hi all, Im new to the forum, but not new to Patrols. :woo:

Sorry for asking a question with my first post. I did a search on the topic, and found some info, but somewhat different to my situation.

Ive recently replaced my 99' 4.2d Patrol with a newer 4.8 version.

On the old one the transfer from the subtank worked perfectly and I never had any issues with it. On the new one, there was a manual switch installed by the previous owner (whom I dont have any details off).

I cant seem to transfer fuel from the sub to the mains, the manual switch has a small12v bulb mounted next to it, i assume to be a visual reminder not to make the pump run dry, as it wont automatically stop with this manual conversion. light bulb lighs when switch is on, and dies when off. so all looks fine, but still no engaging of the subtank.

ive opened up the dash and traced the swith to a relay with all the neccesary wires etc. relay seems to kick in and out if i short it.

the wiring plug has been disconected from the subtank controller unit ( i assume its dead - reason for manual bypass) and a wire tapped into the harness, Green with black trace. - read on the aussie forum this should be the wiring running to the sub-pump.

ive hardwired that wire to a 12v source directly from battery, with no results...

Only thing I can think of is a dead pump, or am I missing something.

Anyone with experience with this issue? help would be much appreciated.
