Nav Man,

I would suggest TJM and OME. I have had both with complete suspension in my Troll. OME was very good, but TJM in my opinion gives a more comfortable drive.

Just remember is you shop on price, you get what you pay fore

I put in EFS suspension, my opinion is that they feel better than the OME I had before in another vehicle.

Give me a call if you want to test my vehicle with the suspension .You have my number.

I bought Agarob and it had SAFARI shocks in - previous owner claimed it was in for 60 000 ++
At the price? I think its good value - I replaced mine with TJM because Dwergie made me a gift [i think it was Xmas  :oldtimer: ]
You dont have to go extreme - match the shocks to the suspension.
Then - IronMan costs less but does the same as teh twice-priced OME etc.. :mytwocents: :mytwocents:

I am going to fit the EFS system on my car, had a look at a set fitted to the Land Cruiser of the owner of ONCA and they look nice. EFS guarantee is 3 years or 100 000 km. EFS is according to my source the company in Australia that manufactured OME and TJM before they moved their production plants to the East.

Price is in the region of R12000.

I do not know if I qualify as :oldtimer: but I will add my :mytwocents:

Thanks guys!

Price wise and for my use profile (99% on road) the Safari shocks (is that Monroe or Armstrong) is going to suit my budget at this stage.

I think it about R4400 fitted?

More's the pity that Piet Weydeman does not produce CAMIL coil-over shocks for the Patrols ,,,,,
Navigator - whereabouts you stay?

Nav, Safari is a Gabriel brand name.

I do want to say this though: The only things that give you control over where your vehicle goes, are the four little patches where the rubber meets the road. And the only thing that controls how well the rubber meets the road, are the shocks.

Shocks have a very difficult life, and the performance requirements are totally conflicting. When compressing the shock slowly, they need to have a high resistance to movevment, but when you push them faster, they need to be softer, and this is exactly the opposite of how they want to react. The fancier the shock's design is, the better it can cope with this conflict.

Now comes the hard bit: when you are crawling slowly over rocks, you almost don't need shocks at all, but the faster you go, the more important they become. Thus good quality shocks play a huge role in safety on the tar road.

True what Peter says - and I maintain - the time I had the Gabriel Safaris on - I had no compliants on roadholding AND the offroad & gravel roads were good too - not as agile as the "longer stroke" items - but the Patrol is forgiving on that off road.
Both I & Dwergie are high-speed drivers [we dont dawdle] and Agarob sat sold - actually, I could not detect big diff between the old Safaris and the TJM replacements on the road, at speed, round corners an over bumps .. the diff came on corrugated Kalahari roads ,,, Then the TJM is in the upper class

Ek dink die prys wat jy gekry het is vir shocks alleen as jy mooi gaan kyk gaan jou coils al redelik pap wees teen die tyd ek is seker TJM gaan dieselfde kos min of meer slegs vir shocks
