Why you chose Nissan

Not a similar post to Defender VS thread...
I was at a Nissan Dealership today and showed the wife a new 4.8 Patrol - dash has leather like Pathy but the fake wood is not so lekker. Rest looks very plush it also makes no pretenses about being 7 seater, it's a 4 + 2 seater. Middle chair, 2nd row is gone and purely arm rests. After leaving my wife said what about Toyota...keeping my cards open why not?
I want to know if you could choose again would you choose a Patrol again or something else (sim price range so no Mercs)?

Dieselfan personally I would not buy a new car again. Let somebody else take the huge depreciation hit and rather buy a newish second-hand car. This is particularly true of a Patrol, which probably loses about half it's value in the first year.
Also, the attribute I wanted when I bought my car, and which is still valid for me, being a robust car with live axles at both ends, is arguably only available in five new cars now:
Patrol
Cruiser 76
Defender
G-class Mercedes
Jeep Wrangler
The only car in the above group that is roughly in the same class as the Patrol is the G, and as far as I am concerned that is simply overpriced, and it only has four seats.
The cruiser 76 is very robust, but not nearly as comfortable.
I think enough has been said about the Defender already.
The Wrangler is probably the most capable in this group in terms of off-road ability, but it is uncomfortable, relatively small and possibly the least reliable?
Of course my priorities may be very different from yours, and my budget definately is.

Dieselfan just another question: Have you ever actually driven a Patrol off-road?
Once you have, maybe you will understand why we love our Patrols?

I must concur with Peter C's response ... the list of vehicles truly comparable to a Patrol is a tad limited. I have owned a bunch including a Cruiser and a few Defenders, I recently settled on a Patrol which I really am impressed by once you get it into a place where it can perform as intended. I have owned it for a few months now and only used it twice in tricky terrain where it simply idled through the obstacles ... other folks in the group with "tuperware double cabs" had to rev like mad and use too much momentum for their own good. One ended up stuck in 4x4 to the extent we removed the front prop shaft so that they could return to Pretoria.
In my view, and when compared to the Disco 3 that I traded for the Patrol, it is not as spacious inside for passengers in the rear as the Disco and this becomes apprarent on a really long drive, however once in the rough stuff there is no comparasion ....I have already got over the consumption difference .... and can live with a little less rear legroom.
If I had to choose again it would be simple ... another Patrol.
Regards,

If I have to buy a car again.. assuming I go back in time, knowing what I know now....
I would indeed buy another car.... yes indeed I would.. another Patrol. Nothing wrong with Patricia, but I like the red more....
For now.. I would only buy another car because I already HAVE the Patrol.. Looking into something small atm.. Lotus is looking appealing..

But definitely NOT trading in my Patrol.
Would I swap my Patrol for another 4x4.. at no extra cost... even if the other one is brand new.. NO! (Well maybe a red patrol....)

Dieselfan on all the car tests people compare other 4x 4 against cruisers,pajeros,d3,d4 ect
The patrol has the comfort of a 200 cruiser, bols like a g-wagon more space and ground clearance than the pajero. Buy n good one for R250 000 and put s
ome kit on it for the rest of your money but buy one and drive it , it all will make sence then!!!o yes it is reliable and has been for nearly 60 years more than D1-D4 can say
