ABS and Diff Lock Warning lights on...

Post by Unkredible »

MY ABS and Diff Lock lights intermittently come on (never when I am near a dealership). The warning bing bing bing bing also sounds - really irritating. Any suggestions? Nissan tested it and said they couldn't find anything wrong...

(a) check fluid levels
(b) check connections - clean with "ELECTRO CLEAN" [read instructions & stick to it
(c) take to another Nissan Dealer - not all their consoles are equally reliable [ask me - it cos me an engine...]

Check your plugs and connections on the gearbox, should be at least three. A wire could have rubbed and is shorting out intermittently causing your Christmas tree affect.

you could also have a problem with your vacuum solenoids. It sounds as if they try and activate the diff lock and that is why you get the beep sound. The diff lock should not activate while you are in 2H.

Thanks all
I fiddled with the wiring, unplugged and replugged, removed and wiped the ABS sensors, found that the handbrake cable pivot mount under the car was not attached properly, remounted it. For now, the problem has cleared up. Will see what happens next time it gets wet...
Oh and the handbrake works much better now !

Hmmm....Started up again....
Now accompanied by a sick scraping noise coming from the brake drums...
Why is the handbrake system linked to the ABS / Diff lock warnings???

So 11 years later this little problem has surfaced again...
I have just been on a long trip on some shocking roads, and now at low revs the ABS and Diff lock warning lights are flashing. As soon as I rev up the problem goes away...
Guessing its either the battery or alternator / one of the earth straps coming loose.
Will gave the car a good clean and then start digging...
Anyone else had similar issues?

I had a similar problem recently. Check the connection block on the chassis underneath the front passenger seat (more or less). Mine worked loose from the chassis mountings during river trip last year and was causing intermittent Diff-lock/ABS issues and flashing lights. Just check the terminals are properly set and that the connection block thang is properly mounted on the chassis.
