Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Hey guys - has anyone turbocharged the 4.8L? In dubai and Oz there are plenty kits available. If not turbocharged has anyone installed the Dastek Unichip in SA? I'm going to Steves Auto Clinic on Wednesday to get some information. Go to youtube and type in "4.8 Patrol Turbo" - they have patrols doing 300kph in Dubai.

what type of chip did he put in - dastek unichip or one of the others. The dastek guys reckon it will improve fuel consumption (I suppose if you drive normally!)

does he know what type of power increase he got out of it?

Carlo, I think he bought it like that, I'll call him and find out for you.

iam no expert but they tune if for what you need i have a dastek and it helps a lot if you keep it below 3000rpm more power if you put voet if you want horses you must feed it!

Weet iemand enigsins van enige pertrol patrol in SA wat al 'n turbo opgesit het?

My 2001 4.5 Patrol het 'n turbo deur Alpine Developments gehad. Dit het net 0.4 bar ge-boost en van so 2300rpm het die turbo begin om te boost en dit het baie krag gehad.
Ek het die turbo afgehaal want elke keer wat ek my karavaan gesleep het, het die exhaust manifold gebuig en teen die blok gelek en dan moes ek dit laat reg maak.
Toe ek die turbo afhaal, het ek gesien dat die 7de injector wat Alpine ingesit het, na die fuel pressure regulator (op die pyp wat terug petrol tenk toe gaan) ge-installeer was. Dit het dus geen druk gehad nie en veroorsaak dat die kar te "lean" hardloop wanneer die turbo werk.
Die Perfect Power chip wat hulle ge-installeer het, het ook nie reg gewerk nie. Perfect Power moes die chip "initialise" om dit weer te programmeer nadat ek die turbo afgehaal het.
Die 4.5 het so 0.5 km/l swaarder op petrol geword met die turbo.

I only want to add something on the chip be sure to have the bridge by-pass plug at all times in your patrol as if and when it packs up you wont be going anywhere, because it is wired into the management system,and if it packs up while you are busy with a 4x4 trip its a big battle to get the heavy patrol out.
