ABS LIGHT and now with gearbox issue added

Hello
This morning we had a little rain in Alberton. On my way to drop the children at school I noticed that the ABS light went on and off at irregular intervals as if the car was on a steep descent with the tyres slipping. On my Merc I get the same flickering when the rear tyres loose traction. The Diff-lock light next to it also came on but for a shorter period.
After about 2 km of driving it went off and stayed off.
All I can think

of as the reason for this erratic behaviour is ............. NOTHING!!!
I checked all the levels and it is 100% correct.
Shalom,( with apologies to Jules for stealing his frase, but I laaik it al lot)

Izak, switching on the diff lock de-activates the ABS and turns on both the ABS and diff lock lights. I wonder if there is not a short circuit somewhere; perhaps rain water got to some chafed wires somewhere?

Hi there...
I am not sure that my reply counts for anything.... (I am not very technical) But I recently had a similar problem (ABS Light on and off at intervals). It was my fuse (main fuse) maybe just check that? I replaced mine and it was sorted. Just my
Have a lekka day!

Hello Margo
I am not sure that my reply counts for anything.... (I am not very technical)
Any and all inputs are appreciated. I had a look at the fuses and they seem to be fusing ok. (Took me 5 minutes to get the fuse box cover back on again though, and there you thought you were not mechanically minded)
Lying under the Patrol looking for a wire that might be chaffed I saw another worrying sight. Right next to the main cross member where the gearbox and transfer case meet there is a small hole between the seams of the transfer case and gearbox. It looks machined so it might be a breather hole. Checked the transfer case and gearbox oil, both are A OK.
My worry about this little space/gap/breather thing? , is what will happen in a water crossing and the boxes are warm, will that not cause water to enter that part of the gearbox.
It was 2 late to take a photo, will take one and upload it 2night.

Izak, for what it is worth. A dashbord light often indicates to more than one possible fault and not only to the specific item indicated. The fault may be with something completely different than the ABS system. Consult the manual.

Hello Izak
I haven't seen the hole/gap/breather you are referring to. Maybe Il'l look this arvie when my car is on LA Sport's nice clean floor. But whatever it is, if there is no oil coming out there, I doubt that any water would be able to get in?
Cheers
