Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Hi all

I'm changing my suspension and raising it 7,5cm but I don't know if I should go with TJM Gold Edition or OME.

What do you think about it? I've heard horror stories from both.

I think they are both top suspensions - How good is the availability of these parts in Angola should something brake?

There's a shop here that will give me the brand guarantee: 3 years or 50.000kms and will replace if something happens.

I have the TJM coils and shocks on my GQ and love them. Nice ride and fantastic off road. My system is a 90 mm lift with adjustable panhard rods and extensions on the links for the anti sway bars.

I am not exactly the biggest suspension expert but I do not think you will go wrong with either.

No matter what,that is a huge lift.The axels will come out under the car on the driver side.The angle on the panhard rod will be out,it will cause the car to squad to the side compressing the suspention over a speed bump.The caster will go out on the front.Do not fit caster bushes,they wont be enough anyway.Leave the std one's and slot the axle.Or you can buy dropboxes from G-man here on the forum.That will fix the caster,with the wrong angle the car will steer you.(too little caster)Lifting the car,the caster go to the "0" mark.Do not make the panhardrod longer to get the axle uder the car,it will only do that.It wont sort out the side to side squad.
Anyway my . If you do it right the car will hande just as good as it look.

Is this only applicable because of the 7.5 cm lift? I am planning a standard 5.0 cm lift with TJM coils and do not want to change Panhards and all the rest (mainly because I have no idea what a Panhard is........ )

A Panhard rod is the link that prevents the axle from moving sideways. There is one on each axle. It has one end bolted to the axle and the other end is bolted to the chassis. The front one is the first and thickest rod in front of the axle. The other link in front of the panhard rod is called the track rod and is connected to the ssteering box's pitman arm instead of directly to the chassis, while the uther end is connected to the hub. This link transfers the steering position of the steering from the sterering box to the left front wheel. There is another track rod behind the front axle connecting the left and right wheels.
On the rear axle the Panhard rod is the only link behind the rear axle.

In short these links should operate as close to horizontal as possible, because then when the axle moves up or down relative to the chassis the axle does not also move sideways much. The steeper the angle of the panhard rods, the more the axles will move sideways when the vehicle goes over bumps.

To cut a long story shorter most people would leave them alone for a 50mm lift. The negative effects are not severe enough to justify the cost of changing them.
