Heater is leaking water, repair???

While driving on Sunday, Swambo picked up that the rubber mat on the passenger side is wet?? I watched the temp gauge and the temp was a bit higher than normal. I drove home, about 1 kilometer. When we got home I removed the mat and find some serious leakage from the heater. Tomorrow we are going to by-pass the heater so the we can drive again.

The question no is, how to solve this problem? The stealers quoted over R 4000.00 just for a new heater!! No labour....
The next question is, whether it is possible to repair it properly? and of cause who will be able to do it in Port Elizabeth. Silverton radiators is prepaired to do it, but unwilling to give any quarantees???

Anybody out there that had similar experience??

Some feedback will be appreciated.

Thanx

Hey Fanie1,

Surly you can just replace the busted hose, i mean, is the entire heater also stuffed...if not, i see no reason why they need to replace the whole thing.

I got the same problem and just bypassed the heater - will not need the heater now in summer. Just hope to remember to fix it before winter.

Th mechanic that helped me with the by-pass established that it is not the pipe that is faulty, but the radiator of the heater unit. So far almost everybody I had spoken to recons that because of the amount of labour involved in getting the unit out, it is not worth to do a repair job on the unit. The risk of it start leaking again is too high???

Fanie,

I replaced my main radiator with Nissan original one (7,5 Gs) about 2years ago. After a year got a small hole due to cowl rubbing against it, off course no warrenty on job after a year wasn't looking forward spending another 7,5Gs Silverton Fix it and it is perfect, About 30000kms. I tow Big van, long distance. However the rubber, mine is a 2000 I have had 3 burst in last two years already. First two I was driving and survived it well, was contemplating to replace all rubbers, while away now my mom took the kids for a drive lost the heater hose and as a result the motor. Advise replace you hoses all of them.
