Which Long Range Tank for 4.8 Y61

Guys, I have been asked what options there are for a long range tank on a 4.8 Y61 Patrol and where to have it fitted in Gauteng. I don't have the answers to either. Could you please help?

I have heard/read that Safari Centre sells a 140 l tank to replace the 95 l main tank to yield a total fuel capacity of 180 l, but is this the only option? Who makes the tank? Is it a good tank (I seem to recall Sias having issues with his).

I will relay the answers via a link to the forum.

The only tank that I know of is the EXEL tank. Look at their site www.northernoffroad.com.

Big tanks? You can also get a tank for left side same place as where the extra tank sit'S on a GRX. Nice and tucked away and no cracking etc.!

They say it's a 140l tank, but I've never managed to put in more than 165l, even after driving on reserve for a good 100km...

The Patrol Bakkie has a 80l sub-tank, wil it fit inplace of the SW's 40l sub-tank??

Gerrit & co
If you guys come across a long range tank that WORKS, PLEASE let us know!
I was very keen on fitting a Aussie import, but at R14 000 to R15 000 it was cheaper to a buy a roofrack and jeryrcans. That is fine for long range touring, but I am still looking for a everyday solution as the 135 litre does not get you tooooo far ...

My research lead me to several cracked tanks and other related problems.
The exel did not have a good name!
The problem being that the 140 l tank is big and heavy when filled and the supports to carry it cannot cope with the pounding it receives when driving offroad. Add to that the chassis flexing and you have a recipe for disaster.

Dis 'n geval van wanneer , nie as nie ...

SO please design / source / commission / beg / borrow / steal a tank so that we can copy the thing!!!

Gerrit please keep us posted!

Saltman, what you say about flex and cracks to the tank makes perfect sence. I always thought to rather install another standard 40L to my current 95+40 configuration, if only the space was available.
