Clanking noise on front suspension GQ

Gentleman hopefully can get some help here but it seems most of you have the latter GU models. My GQ have a clank noise when I drive over a "hobble" in the road. I have found when the Patrol was in for wheel rotation and all 4wheels were hanging when vehicle was raised on body the noise was away for quite a while.

Even before I fitted OME the noise was there, after it was fitted it also stayed away for quite a while.

I have checked all bushes, they seem fine. Before I go and change all bushes anything else soemone can recommend.

Cheers
Jules

My 2c would be on body mounts.

Get someone to drive with you and find a nice big speedbump to drive over. Drive slowly over the speedbump at an angle so the body 'flexes and rolls' a bit, this should help identify where (front, middle, rear/ left, right...) the clank comes from. Once you've identified where it's coming from you can bounce/rock the body in that location to identify if it is a body mount.

Beer and steak will assist with the required laden mass to bounce a patrol.

I also have a funny sound at the left front wheel sound like something striking a drum full of water.

Hi I have to agree with weskus surfer. Could be a loose body mount, had that problem on a GU.

Hi Jules,

If it's not bodymounts, this link has a couple of other causes:

I'd try the speed bump and bounce test first though.

Gentleman nothing to report back as yet, on saturday my garden engineer did not arrive at work so I had to cut the grass since we had over 40 Shark & Bulls supporter over at Cheetah Truter Lapa for BIG SCREEN( which was the only "onpartydige" household ) and SWAMBO do not enjoy long grass.

Saturday no inspection happened and Sunday was to tired after the grass cutting and rugby match so I was the ultimate couch potato. :oldtimer:

Hopefully will soon inspect

Groete
Jules

Good, Jules. Now I don't feel so bad for not making it around to your place on Saturday to watch you working on the Troll  .

Some feedback, Gerrit and myself had a look at my Lorrie over the weekend . Our conclusion is defnitief the front left coil making this noise. When vehicle is parked horisontal and front suspension moevd up and down you hear and feel the coil going "doing, doing".This happens when you move the vehicle on the leftside and not on the rightside When the vehicle is parked that there is more pressure on the left ie right front op n bulttjie there is now noise coming from the left coil when tou move the left of vehicle up and down.

Another thing Gerrit picked up is that my lorrie does not have a stabiliser bar on the front suspension. I saw in my manual that only on some GQ the Stabiliser bar is used, any GQ user out there please check if you have front stabilizer bars.

I tried to upload that section from workshop manual maar is seker nog n bietjie stupid

Greetings
Jules
