Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

It appears that Nissan SA has discontinued the 4.8GL.

On their website only the 3.0 TD GL and the 4.8 GRX is currently listed:

I wonder whether they are selling the Y61 out and discontinue it model by model as they go out of stock. That would be a pity, because AFAIK, the Y61 is still manufactured.

But it would be the logical conclusion, given the launch of the new Patrol in the Middle East.

Does anyone know what is going on?:

is the Y61 being discontinued in SA?;

is it still being manufactured?;

what is Nissan SA's official stance on the Y61, and what is their official stance on the new one coming to SA?;

and the unofficial word?

Have sent Nissan SA an e-mail and will advise when I get an answer.

I see in the May issue of Leisure Wheels that the official word from Nissan is that the new Patrol would not become available in SA, but LW says they are willing to bet to the contrary, for what its worth.

It would be nice to get a straight answer from Nissan regarding the future of the Y61 though.

My personal opinion: The 4.8 GL sales are to low (within a vehicle series already under sales pressure) to be cost effective as a stock item...CRITICAL MASS. The GRX with the auto gearbox is much more popular, hence the better sales figures. This is a typical negative snow-ball effect following on Nissan's poor marketing effort of the Patrol.

I do not think the new Patrol's release-debate has got anything to do with the GL being discontiued.

Vrou: Waarom lieg jy vir my? Jy sal maak dat ek jou nooit kan vertrou nie.

Lyk my Nissan ignoreer hulle klante soos die spreekwoordelike stopstraat in die mis.
