Anyone out there know where i could find this size? i know, i know, its not common, but i'm  i can find them somewhere...... i heard KM2's are produced in this size,....although like all great things 4wd, prob only available readily in Aus......those damn Aussies!!! Let me know guys.

Ps: i saw a 47 series cruiser at R&D about a month ago with this size, although it could have been a 33x10.5 (almost exactly the same)

Russ,

Try Johan Tyres (Viljoen) - owner of First Alignment in Stikland. If it is out there I am sure he will be able to get it for you.

His number is (021) 949-5041.

Hope you come right.

As far as I know, the 255/85R16 size is not imported locally by any manufacturer/distributor. It is a great size in my opinion, but it seems that the local preference is for wider tyres  .

The guys from the Land Cruiser Club of Southern Africa recently tried to put together a group order for 255/85R16 Maxis tyres, but in the end I don't think it worked out.

One must also remember that replacing a single tyre far from the larger centres becomes more difficult if one uses uncommon tyre sizes.

Thanks both Pieter and Gerrit, both your comments are noted and true. i thought this would be the case. Pitty. as far as i'm concerned this woud be a winning combination for all cruiser and patrol owners, even the landy boys would be in on these i'm sure. How they justify the obscure sizes that tow truck divers use is beyond me  ,yet they leave out sizes like this one, in the face of many off road vehicle owners willing to part with the money for such a size. ...if only they knew. :oldtimer:

Ok...so anyone know of a 33x 10.0/10.5 x 15" then???

Sold a set of five 255/85/16bfg m/t's with about 70% tread on a month ago.... :surprised: Customer replaced it with 235/85/16 bf's. Could become a problem if one tyre is needed!

It seems that the 255/85R16 group buy is back on over at the Land Cruiser Club of Southern Africa. They are looking at bringing in Maxxis Bighorns (an aggressive type tyre similar to BFG MT) and the cost will be around R1790 per tyre. An order of 30 tyres is needed to make it happen. If anyone here is interested, I will see if we can tag on to the group buy and help to make up the numbers.

I've made Bryan, whose running with the LCCSA group buy, aware of this thread.

I hope Maxxis come to the party and start carrying these again and that this is not a once off group buy. They did bring them in before, but stopped due to lack of interest. I think there is a market for them as the size came up here, on LCCSA and 4x4community the last 2 or 3 months.

Sounds like it could happen :woo:

Not the biggest fan of the Big Horn, and would have preferred something else, but, beggars cant be choosers, and i'll try anything once. My only fear is that after those 30 units are bought out, thats that. Surely after 30 tyres are ordered and payed for tyre companies will see the gap in the market for such a size,....way better than the 33x12.5 and way way better than the 285.75.16 (in my opinion naturally)

Gerrit are you also interested in this group buy? and if so, could you keep my informed of further activity should this continue towards a group sale?

Best
Russ

Gman, i may ask you, What vehicle was this person driving and what made them choose to swap (ie:power loss, spare availability etc etc) , just curious ?
