Spoke to nissan and they apparently used them about 10 years back as a service provider but stopped the contract with them when they took Renault on board as they don't work on reno.

Mayfair is now officially their national preferred service provider for gearboxes. would be interesting to know what oil they would have proposed to use if they did the box.

Thanks again Noel (NMAD) for spotting this - who knows what could have happened if this slipped by and they used the wrong oil.
Pleasure, we all need to look out for our fellow Patrol owners so they can enjoy them hasssle free for many years to come

Eddie, if it's not too late I wonder if it's not a good idea to have a little of the old oil tested. There are a number of guys doing it, and it's not expensive.

That way you can determine whether the previous oil was correct, and also whether or not it overheated.

Maybe not a bad idea. Where would one do it though? Ill ask the guy working on it if he knows where i can do it.

Just google "oil analysis" and your area.

I hardly blame you Eddie – I would have had many concerns/questions myself.

Finally got my Patrol back yesterday :blonde:

Quick update:
Oil - They used about 12l to fill the box and the torque converter. It was completely drained of all the old oil. Unfortunately the oil was mixed with other old oil when drained and could not test it.

The 2 most probable causes for premature seal failure according to the mechanic is excessive Heat and the wrong oil (which could also lead to excessive heat). Both causes have been excluded as all the other seals was in perfect condition. even the outer seal on the reverse piston was still in perfect condition. its only the inner seal that perished. The only conclusion is that it was a bad part from the beginning. Tough luck i guess.

For now im happy that i have my Patrol back :woo: and that my box is working again. I need to take it back for a followup inspection after 1,000km. Also got a 12 month / 10,000km warranty.
