Re: Bridgestone 4x4 Club Challenge - 6 April 2013
Good day all Nissan 4x4 Owners,
I want to ask again that as many of you who want a fun 4x4 day, enter and drive on the day. I can confidently say, that anyone who does not drive on the day, will be missing out on a very good experience – driving and otherwise. Having driven Fundi against other vehicles, and (mostly) doing OK on each event, I can say that the new club based format is much more fair to Nissans – longer wheel bases than most competitors…….
The committee has walked all the obstacles with Alan Pepper of Bass Lake, who laid out the Fundi night drive event 2011, and be assured that he is setting up the obstacles to ensure that good driving technique, NOT having special equipment, will get you through J. NBNB Drivers of Patrols with 4.2 diesel engines, who then turbo’ed these to match the later 4.2 Nissan Patrol engine specifications, are allowed to compete J J Just watch you tyre sizes per the rules.
So, drivers of vehicles without difflocks will be able to drive all the obstacles, with the right line and technique. The obstacles are more about accurate driving, than brute force, so even 2.4 HBs (no offense meant) with LSD, with road biased tyres, will be able to do the track J. We do not forsee rain or mud, so the chances of damage to vehicles, is minimal.
Let me explain how it works:
Yes, this is a FUN event J J J
No, you should NOT damage your vehicle – unless you do something really silly J. Ego – could get damaged!!!
Yes, spectators (family) per vehicle are allowed, but must always have seatbelts belted up, windows open to rules, or closedJ
No, this is NOT a timed event, so there should NOT be any worries regards insurance J
Yes, you drive as slow as you want, through the obstacles, with the proviso that if you stop moving, eg stall, you lose points. So, slow & steady does it J
Yes, you get 3 minutes to walk the obstacle before you drive it, to choose the best line for your vehicle J
Yes, you drive between uprights with golf balls on, that you must MISS, or lose points. Yes, sweating (and swearing) is guaranteed!! J
Yes, you are issued with sponsors stickers to put on your vehicle on the day. No stickers on vehicle = points deducted. L So, go to any building or vehicle signage company near you, check on internet, ask to buy a 1 m x 1 m roll of white magnetic sheeting, and cut according to the sticker sizes (in the rules you received last time). Keeps stickers off your paintwork J If you do not have the rules, contact me by email, and I will help you with this.
No, Alan has NOT made any obstacles where a rollover could happen. J
Yes, you drive your vehicle to the best of your ability, over an obstacle that has been designed to test your ability. J
No, you try NOT to spin your wheels, as this causes loss of traction, possible points loss (see rules).
Yes, on certain obstacles, you WILL be allowed 1 (one) reverse, to allow bigger vehicles eg Patrols, to make the obstacles without losing points. J So, no excuse not to enter, compete to the best of your ability. Kobus will test every obstacle with his Safari (WIDE turning circle, and LSD) to ensure that all vehicles can get through, with the right line, amount of wheel twirling, etc.
Yes, it is possible to get 100 points in any of the driving obstacles, if you and your co-driver think carefully, drive your plan. J
Yes, if anyone wants to drive, but does not have a co-driver/partner, SAY SO NOW, enter anyway, we can team up similar people, who can drive/work together, first as driver in your own vehicle, then co-drive in the other vehicle J. This way - hehehe - you get 2 chances of driving the track, as driver & co-driver, 2 chances of getting a prize, 2 chances of making the final J
We expect the entire track to take 3 hours to complete, and will be made up as follows:
9 driving obstacles, interspersed with 3 non-driving obstacles, where 4x4, recovery, general driving, etc, knowledge will be tested.
Lights on at all times, and keep to the site speed limit of 20 kmh, for safety, at all times. Penalty points will be applied for not following these rules.
Remember to read the rules as sent out last time!! These are critical for reducing points loss, understanding what can, and cannot be done, when you reach each obstacle.
And please stay BEHIND the vehicle in front of you, STOP where instructed, until it is your turn to walk the obstacle.
Date: Saturday 6 April 2013. Time: 07h00 onwards. Prizegiving to follow the event. We expect to finish at 7 pm latest.
Venue: Bass Lake Adventure Centre, Henley-on-Klip, off R59, near Vereeniging. http://www.basslake.co.za
Bring your family along, have a fun day 4x4ing, while they paddle canoes on the dam, swim, braai, relax. J
Entry fee for Club members is R100-00 and for Non-Club members are R 250/vehicle which includes 2013 membership of the Nissan 4x4 Club.
NO drinking alcohol until after you have finished all the obstacles, handed in your score sheet.
Prizes for the first 10 place finishers, courtesy of Bridgestone Tyres and other named sponsors.
Bring own first aid kit, fire extinguisher, recovery kit, etc, to earn more points on the day. Read the rules.
Only SA road legal and licensed vehicles can compete. The judges decisions will be final in all matters.
Call me with any queries

Re: Bridgestone 4x4 Club Challenge - 6 April 2013
Dave, they will have a problem if for example you have for example, Kumho or Goodyear stickers on your vehicle, or something in opposition to Conqueror.
