If one has to replace a Patrol clutch what are our options?

Nissan Original?
Nissan Heavy Duty ?
Aftermarket unit?

How much is Nissan asking for clutch kit? and,... do they carry these consumable items in their inventory locally?

My clutch is fine at the moment, but my box is out under warranty for some faults (can you believe it) , so im wondering if its necessary to replace the clutch at this stage or not. (the Nissan HD clutch i have has done about 90 000km , and feels amazing still...?

Advice on all the above would be greatly received.

Henk that sounds excessive. The Original clutch is R5200.00 at the Dealers. So how could labour be R5800.00? even at Dealer Hourly pricing that would be alot in my opinion.

Mine cost about the same, a year or two back, but included some other cost like service and looking at a couple of other stuff. It took them a couple of days to do, I think they had the car for 3 days. Remove the engine, rather than the gearbox, because it was easier. Think they quoted round R8-9k initially. Used JB's Nissan in Malmusbury, also used them for services.

Just for interest sake..

I now have done 608 000 with my 2000 4.2 GL

Still the same clutch + everything else

My Steering Damper and Drag Link ball joints are not good any more - Nissan quoted me a bloody bagfull. Suppose when I get over the shock I will buy it and install.

(Had to replace the fan recently, 2nd time , it was also starting to crack)

P.S. - When I get to 750 000 I will also send an article to that one magazine ("Weg" I think) where a lot of ouks brag with their 4x4s around 300k kms.

I think you must send it now anyway......and again at 750
Me thinks that the GQ will be less hassle to do the clutch less. K#k in the way like rear air con pipes ect . Might even be the same as 4.5 clutch most spares are are the same like weelbearings. Ect :mytwocents:
I think you must start a new post on patrol passion with your patrollie as the fist one with the km and what you had to do to maintain it !!!!it will be nice to see how many
There are and how mutch km have been done

Must say that is impresive, i take it is a diesel! As it a 2000 model and 4.2! QQQ QQQ :salute: :salute:
Is it still normal aspirated or turbo?? If it normal aspirated it will make sence that it can do that amount off
Km on a single clutch as it power is not very high to make the clutch realy get damadge.

On the drag link joints try Auto zone or Sid's suspencion parts in Pta West. Baught mine from them on my previous
4.2. Just make sure they are threaded left and right hand tread.

Speak to Driko to send you sum stickers he made for the diesel Trolls.

Dungbeetle, we are going off-topic here, but my drag link died a short while ago.

I tried to have it repaired, but the repair didn't work, twice in a row.

I sourced ball joints, unfortunately I have lost the part number but they come from one of the Nissan Cabstars and cost me R157 for the set (both left and right). I then had a piece of 3/4" Schedule 160 tube (available from process pipe suppliers) machined according to the drawing attached below.

I had a bracket made up to hold the steering damper. The cost was the same for two as for one, so I have a spare, if you want it you are welcome. This just bolts on through the two crosswise holes, using 8mm bolts.

I was lucky in that I got the tube for free and paid only for the machining, but the whole lot cost me about R600.00, as opposed to Nissan's R4628.40.

However, just make sure the length is the same as mine, I believe there is some difference between the Y60 and the Y61.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.
