Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Spike, I could be wrong here but I think 90% of Fanus's current driving is around town.
If I am correct, then (on the TB42) that is a fairly good strategy as the torque does peak pretty early, and also 4.4 is not actually all that bad for a GQ in town traffic.

Yes that is correct.
My Patrol is my daily drive. I do about 11 km per day: Drop laaitie off at school on the way to work and then later back home. Robot to robot short distances...
(Did also do one trip to Whiteriver and back on last 120l fuel used in calculation).

The Patrols (and I guess all other heavy vehicles) absolutely hate the short drives!
My wife used the 4.8 for a while for dropping and fetching the kids from school - a 16km round trip. The fuel consumption was absolutely eye watering! If I recall I think it was doing something like 3.5km/l. I put a stop to that very quickly!

I have not had time to compare my odo reading to gps, so I am assuming it safe to say it would be under reading with about 5%?
(So when calculating fuel consumption, the vehicle traveled 5% further than indicated by odo... )

Mine is also about 3% out. measured 370km on gps which recorded 360km on odo.

Just did a trip to Bela-bela and back for a work function... Filled up in Nelspruit, stopped at Groblersdal to fill up, 6.8km/l
When filling up before heading home, after driving around quite a bit (dont have exact km's) on a game farm/reserve, consumption increased to 5.8.
I am however very happy with the 6.3km/l that was achieved on the trip back from Bela-bela to Nelspruit, think if it wasn't for the hilly parts from schoemanskloof onwards this would also been close to 6.8...
Did average about 100km/h cruising speed.. hardly ever went over 110.
